We are in the process of getting ESC service management software up and running. We want to also use the barcode
function to track our inventory. Does anyone have any experence in using the ESC software with a barcode inventory program. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
We too are using ESC and want to know the same thing. I need to get the inventory under control and efficient.
So far I have figured out that ESC will print barcodes only.
It doesn't look like it will import inventory quanity. We are using peachtree for the accounting system, what are you using? I have been able to import our existing inventory into ESC but we manually typed in quanties.
Why not buy training?
When you figure what the cost saviungs are of knowing your inventory of a sizeable company .... you can afford a chafoe driven limo to drive you to the classes!!! Not joking!!!
If your talking just two trucks .... maybe not a limo. But your still talking thousands of dollars just laying around doing nobody any good ... unless they are gonna be used/ sold in short order.
To me, most parts should be turned in ninety days. Some items can go longer, but try to keep it few.
But some items can be turned in weeks. And these are the main staples you need to be getting your best prices on and making sure everyone has THESE particular parts ON HAND ....
We bought training. Barcoding and inventory management was a small part of the software training, maybe 10 words! We understand how the software works.A process has to be developed to manage the parts, barcoding and data entry. We are looking for someone who already has this in place using ESC software, that can share that process with us. We have 4 warehouses and 8 service trucks in two states. Many of our parts have a long shelf expendency. We only do boiler and burner services.
Do they have a system that will allow you to do this?
When I worked at Boeing we would clock in under our ID card in the morning, Then for each job we would scan a bar code for that job. When done with that one, on to the next job, scanned the bar code. Our shop is looking into a system like this, save alot of book-keeping time and billing. You could have a bar code for travel, for misc, cleanup, inv, etc.
Is this system out there? Say we print out a work order with a barcode, you clock in and out on each job during the day. For the incoming emergency call you could get a numerical code for manually punch in.
If this is out there I would really appreciate finding it, thanks Chad.
Creating the barcode is the easy part. How you manage what you do with the barcode is a more complicated matter. You can buy software to create barcodes for any alfa/numeric number you wish to asign to anything for around $40.00 on ebay. I.E. parts, labor, travel etc. Bar code readers that connect direct to a computer can be had for around $60.00 each. You can scan in information the same ad data inputing. It can go directly into a excel spreadsheet and use it for anything. We were trying to figure out how to manage the barcodes to match our desires. The possabilities are only limited to the software that manages the data.
So as far as you know there isnt a complete system out there, you would have to build it yourself. Sounds a little over my head but Im up for the challange...
I'm not aware of one. My guess companies create their own to suit their needs. We also came to realize that the database barcode programs don't interface with spreadsheets well. We wanted to have this option so we could import our existing inventory data base into the barcode software program. We still have a ways to go.
Another thread I made in Residential had a good reply, checking on this.
