Good morning, Bret and everyone! Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
Bert convinced me.
I'm buying a lathe. Probably a mini model, 12-18" turning length.
Watching craigslist now for a decent deal before I drop the big cash on a new one.
Of course, I've never used one before, so I'm sure that, along with "WOW, look at what I made!" pics, I'll be posting "Jeez, guys, I didn't know that a skew chisel would go through your hand at that angle" pics
Anyway, just browsing through the site before I've got to head off on a call.
Gotta make those washingtons and lincolns to afford my new toy....
Good morning all.
Good morning, Bret and everyone!
Good man you"ll love it.
Here's my :.02:Try and Get one with at a 12" swing (for blows) and I'd say try to get at lest 18" on center (length)
Getting the HSS High Speed Steel is a very good Idea for the tools Harbor Freight a set some for around $48 they have a $20 set but they lose there edge REAL fast, I know that for a fact:gah:
PSI has some good tools and stuff for a good price kind of like Feildpice for us http://www.pennstateind.com/
Been looking at the HF chisels. Thought about the $20 set and thought that it probably wasn't the best. I'll probably start with the mid-grade set and upgrade anything from there.
Hadn't thought about turning bowls. Stupid rookie mistake, I guess. I'll have to make sure that any lathe I pick has that capability.
Try to keep all your fingers Jp.:grin2:
hey bert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i gotta work tomorrow long day!!!!!
sad face
Hey Bret,
Sorry I missed your call today as I was up in on the mountain....

'Evening Bret and everyone.. Just checking in during a hectic weekend.
Good morning, Bret and everyone!
JP, You will love the lathe, I have enjoyed the ones I have had over the years, I still have egg cups I first made, my sister has a candle holder that was also one of the first items I made, they are a lot of fun, just remember to keep your fingers safe, (never play with equipment when you are tired or are on medication that could affect your abilities) even if you still only need your middle finger.:whistle::grin2:
