A DIY'er with a death wish

The owner's son told me with some degree of pride that he figured this out by trial and error.
Mostly error from the looks of it.

Pic 1 The panel is fed from a 100 amp panel on the right.
Pic 2 A mobile home electric furnace on an OSB box he built.
Pic 3 My reaction. I refused to touch any of the equipment. In order to run the 4-0 SE cable he'd scavanged he cut strands off of it until it would fit under the lugs on what ever breakers he salvaged.

So what did this guy need you for?

Why is there 6" flex going from the return to the.... Return?

Assuming this furnace is a downflow mobile furnace....

What was his reaction when you refused to work on it?

Looks like what I would do on my own house "temporarily" lol. No but that looks beyond death wish!

What a train wreck on all fronts.....

The other pictures I took are only more confusing. He built a box with OSB and put a downflow electric furnace on it. Then he cobbled together pieces of flex duct from the box to the old boot boxes. On top of the furnace was an Air Bear filter cabinet. He put a piece of paneling on the top to enclose it and connected two 6" flex ducts to the cabinet from the old returns. Of course air flow was terrible. There were no connectors for the wires at the furnace or the panel.
I told him why the furnace was short-cycling and diagnosed a bad breaker but I did not attempt to repair anything. I knew there was no way he could afford to pay me to bring it up to anything I would consider safe. And I knew I'd never convince him not to use that death-trap.
As has been said elsewhere - there's no fixing stupid.
