Upgrade my Carrier 19XR
We have two (2) 1,000 TR Carrier 19xr, centrifugal, R-134a chillers, and has been around for 15 years.
I want to upgrade it with VFDs to reduce our energy consumption. For 6 hours a day, the chillers is running at 75% load. You shut down one chiller, then phone starts ringging.
What VFDs and controls would be recommended for the chiller upgrade. We are open to use parts from other brand/manufacturer.
And lastly, is it feasible just to retrofit it with multiple turbocors?
carrier has already done all the homework for you. the vfd and controls are all available from them. been doing that retrofit for years, it works great no turbocors needed.
yeah, the turbocore thing is nice, but for a relatively modern machine with a kit available it may not make sense. run the conditions and look at cost to fully understand if you must.
You could not have said it any better.

I have to agree with southparks, not to mention that carrier will be willing to assist with selection of parts and can provide savings profile from original compressor selection. Might cost a little more but in the end it will not look like a pile of crap that was put together from aftermarket parts.
