Ford E 250 electrical issue

So from time to time, my van was blowing the 10 amp fuse for the brake lights. I went and replaced all the bulbs and a day later, it did it again. So now Im dreading the idea of taking my van into the shop...I am not an auto mechanic and I don't trust hardly anyone to do work except me. ;) When they do, and you get your vehicle back, it always seems like something else goes wrong right away.

Anyway, I thought I would take a look at the brake switch that mounts to the floor pedal. I was moving it about on its post and then I heard the fuse pop. Bingo!

The part is 8.99 at the local auto parts store.

Just thought I would share in case some of you have the same issue in the future with your Ford Econoline vans.

You moved the brake lamp switch, and it shorted to the pedal arm?

I dont know, all I know is it shorted when I moved it. I replaced it and haven't had any issues. What do you think of them apples?

I think this is not the first time I have heard of a Ford truck with a brake switch issue, lol!

Brake switches are for sissies .... just yank that puppy out and throw it away

On a side note with my 2012 E250 I had noticed that the tail lights were not operating. Under the drivers side rocker panel a wire was broke. The wire was pulled really tight which probably caused it to snap.
If this is a common problem it might save someone some searching time.

Just for fun... the word 'Ford' is the problem... LOL Having said that... my Chevy has unique issues also... Oh well.

Trouble-shooting electrical is IMO not much different on vehicles than furnaces or AC... one sorts out the wiring and starts eliminating parts/places until they find the problem and resolve it.

Good catch with the brake lite switch... they do fail.

So this normal open switch housed in plastic is shorting to ground when it closes. Amazing!

If the lights aren't working on a 2012 I would take it back to the dealer for warranty repairs.

Yes...I guess. Have not had any issues thus far since I replaced it.
