I have freed up seized comressors with 5-2-1
I started a comparison thread last summer and put down all my findings.
the kickstart came in 2nd place
I use 5-2-1 or kickstart.
A "true" 5-2-1 is the way to go.
CSR U-1 and U-2 are stock items in the trucks.
The Supco SPP6 was also a favorite for years. The caveat was, that you needed to add a delay-on-break timer to use them.
The advent of digital thermostats with built-in delay solved that issue.
A Supco has to cool/reset after use. A true 5-2-1 does not.
Kickstarts are only two wire. We had a case of them, and rewired them all as three wire before using them.
Johnstone (Gurnee and Niles) and Berkheimer (Arlington Heights and Niles) carry all three sizes of the 5-2-1 kits.
Note the CSR U3 is specifically sized for 4 and 5 ton SCROLL compressors.
I also have attached a Bulletin from Copeland listing approved sizes of Start Capacitors for different size Scroll Compressors.
From glennhvacman in the NW burbs.
I'm sure we have.
By the way, Johnstone:
