AUX Heat Help
I'm confused !
I was reading over another thread where it was mentioned that the Carrier Greenspeed is optimized for heat capacity - and is able to operate at lower temps keeping the set point lower -- but it is not necessarily more efficient as the standard infinity HP. Also, if I am reading this correctly the back up electric heat strips can work at the same time as the heat pump? So you can keep getting the HP benefit as the temps drop. Same with hydronic coils - they can still work with the HP running? I know that with a furnace as back up the HP stops and it is one or the other. Am I reading this incorrectly.
I have mention this on another thread that my house was destroyed by fire last summer and I am going to rebuild. I am north of New Hope PA along the Delaware -- so it gets cold in the winter but the cooling season is not terribly bad ---- utilities are expensive. PECO electric rates are .18+ -- Propane is basically $3 if you buy enough $5 if you don't and we all know oil is over $4 ... No NG available.
It sounds like my thoughts on installing two High Efficient Infinity HP's with backup Propane furnaces may not be the way to go since I would be on propane too often. Would I be better off with the straight electric strips.... not really seeing how the hydronic is much better since I have to go propane boiler for that. The last think I want to do is create a massively complex system when two Greenspeeds with electric backup and a Marathon water heater would do most of what I want.
The house was oil forced air -- two units and a separate oil water heater -- we used about 1500 gallons a year. I only use the place on the weekends and the only good thing about oil is I could heat the place up quickly when we first arrived for the weekend .....but I am taking out the buried oil tanks ..... no more oil .........plus the service contracts on the three units cost me almost 1k every year.

With the Greenspeed's extended capacity ranges, backup elements can be locked out until outdoor temps are close to 20 deg. With the wifi enabled Infinity control you can turn the heat on (or up) from the web before you head to the property

So what should I take into account as far as the back up heat? Understanding that NG is not available. I did not understand that the heat strips and the HP worked together
