Ac Freezing Up
Hi,
I started having problems with my AC unit, it's Goodman, air handler model ARUF032-00A-1B. The outside compressor model is Goodman CPLJ24-1B. Recently it started to freeze up, runs for long time. I'm afraid it's going to burn up the motor. I'm a total rookie when it comes to AC :o , so my question might sound stupid to you. What could be causing this? Is it my freon leaking or could there be something else? Is Goodman known for these problems? Any idea where could be the problem, could it be at the air handler or compressor? Any pointers about where the leaks usually occur? I would really appreciate your help! Thank you very much.

Check the filter - if it's dirty, replace it.
Check the indoor coil - if it's dirty, clean it.
If these 2 check out OK, call a pro to check your refrigerant charge.
You won't get much, if any, DIY help on this site, except for what I provided.
Good luck.

Have Pro Check Freon
For me it was a leaking A-coil (indoor). Unit would freeze up indoor A-coil and the large line going to outdoor compressor. Stange to see frost/ice outside on a 90* day.
Here would be my unofficial/non-pro checklist.
On a call for cooling:
(1) Is fan running on outdoor unit??
(2) Is blower motor running??
(3) Is your air filter clean??
(4) Are you return vents unobstructed??
If yes, to all above, have pro check freon level.....
Low air flow across indoor coil may cause icing. My bet is on freon level. Good Luck.

My filter is clean. So is the coil. I clean/replace those regularly. I even ran water thru the pipe that's draining outside of the house and the water coming out is clean.
The fan outside is runnning, the blower motor is running and all my vents are unobstructed. So, I guess it will be the freon leak...
Thank you very much for your help!

Age of Equipment
How old are the various pieces (especially indoor coil)??
-
3 YEARS OLD ONLY... THE PARTS ARE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT LABOR IS NOT.
-
Doubt a 3 year old coil would be leaking due to corrosion... Time to call a pro with the proper equip and skills to check charge level.
-
The pipes on the coil look good, there's minor corrosion streaks running down the side of the coil, but nothing that could cause leaks or clogs.

You did enough.
Its now time to call a service company.

Ok, thank you very much guys, I appreciate it.
