Goodman sells a 3 ton condenser for 410A 14 SEER. I have been told that if you buy a 3 ton system you can get a better SEER rating by buying a larger evaporator coil say a 4-5 ton evaporator. Is this true or just sales hype?
If it is true please explain why.
I have an Excel, with 11/19/07 Goodman Split system ARI matchups.
There are some 3-ton SSX 14-SEER, R-410A matched with CA*F4860C6A & other last 3 digit evaporators.
A 3.5-Ton evaporator is as high as I could find with an R-22 system.

Do I have to buy a TXV and hard start capacitor or will it work without adding them? The one salesman is telling me I have to buy these items while a different dealer says I don't need them. They are both recommending a Goodman CHPF4860D6 evaporator. The difference in price is about $ more for the TXV. Is it worth the money?
I used to oversize the indoor coil years ago maybe a half ton or ton.
However now it probably is not necessary. Not only that it may void your warranty.
By all means get the txv.
Remember there are tricks to this trade but it is up to the manufacturer to decide how they want their units installed. Odds are if you follow their advise it will always work out better.
