Anybody else use a reclaim machine? We have a Van Steenburgh that is putting on some age now; I actually wore the first one out.

R-22 replacements.... There are several, none are capable of topping up a system that still has R-22 in it. All have some loss of system capacity of at least 5%. Some require you to change the oil from mineral oil to POE oil. Some guys are looking for the holy grail of being able to top up an R-22 system with another refrigerant. Not gonna happen in my opinion.

Local distributor prices for R-22 are 3 times what they were two years ago.

    Question...

Is there going to be an official drop in replacement for R-22? perhaps Eventually?

I am studying for my universal EPA and as of last friday was advised that according to EPA there will be no replacement.

Any thoughts on this? or is this something i shouldnt worry about knowing as of yet?

    Thanks

If the price doubles again this year it's going to be priced out of the market regardless of production levels!

It did a little more than double in price for my area last year alone, unless you took advantage of certain distributors specials on "Buy a dry R-22 unit and get a jug of gas for $xxx." I assume it will increase by at least as much dollar-wise if not percentage wise this year.

    R22 phaseout

I've read up on the phaseout. So the EPA is already a couple years behind in implementing the actual reduction in production/imports cut backs, right? Has there been a "set in stone" reduction for 2013? I hear a lot of speculation at our favorite supply house (they are saying 40% or so reduction coming this year), but has the EPA actually come out with a number? Anyone care to speculate on a % price increase for 2013?
