I make my living with my hands. Never take safety risks, especially when it involves your money makers.
o....and one more thing...if you get a burn wrap it in a clean shirt or something...an try and warm your hand right when it happens...DO NOT run water over it yet...seen a guy do that once and it cooled too quick, skin just rolled off like dirt.. hope this helps Crab
Not good.... Heard stories of tech's loosing fingers from freon burns! Hope you heal fast!
well i done it with 134a....and i can say its even worse...froze a welding glove to my hand tring not to lose 100lb of 134a... let her blow baby let her blow... you need to get you some Silvadene Cream.... get a big bowl of that crap...if you ever burn your self put it on heavy... believe it or not it can help prevent a injury that bad...i also stuck a 1 3/8 line to my arm one year from a rev valve,,,was torching tring to do a 2 man job myself and see stuck to my arm,,,had to pry it off... anyways get some of that cream...it has saved my idiot butt many times over the years... Been there, done that. Always seems to be in a supermarket on a rack system. It's gonna hurt like hell in a few days. Be VERY careful when it breaks, not to let it get infected. And, no.......hiner milk won't make it feel better.....
We got to see the core removal tool in class yesterday and play around with it. For less than 50 bucks apiece, I think I'll have several when I'm out in the field someday. Thanks for the pics of the hand. We can all learn from your pain... Sorry you had to get hurt, and hope ya heal up soon. Keith

at least u can still give someone the bird important fingers are still there
I now have a core removal tool and a good, thick pair of leather gloves---just in case.
Sorry to hear about your hand. I Know the 1st instinct is to jump in and stop it but let it go. I use Core Pulling tools and Good Leather gloves
I have been burnt, But not that bad. Your first reaction is to grab that cap and try to get it on. It only takes one time getting burnt and you will let it fly.
i had somthing like that happen also, but it was a mapp gas bottle. i just installed a water heater and was taking my torch apart. when i took the head off the valve in the bottle stayed wide open. in a moment of panic i put it aginst my leg so i wasn't dumping gas into the mechanical room. by the time i got outside it had burned a hole in my pants and left a huge nasty blister that i had to go to the emergency room to be treated. now i have a battle wound the size of a coffee cup. if i was smart i would have just put the torch head back on. hind sight is 20/20.
I did that back in school MANY years ago. Switching out the old recovery jugs on the monster carts they had back then. Jug wasnt off. I turned it off with liquid spraying. Used one hand till it jurt bad then switch to the other. I felt your pain. It sucks But I learned early on not to EVER care again if it blows.
Man dude that sucks. never thought gloves would do that. just one more reason not to wear them. i had the opposite to me had the torches going and basically melted them to my hand. Let use know the brand or style of gloves.
Negative 40* is really cold, and colder in the liquid form. Over time, just from your fingers being exposed to these conditions you will find that even cold weather will bring out the scar tissue numbness. Thus, kinda feeling like it has happened all over again. Knowledge is worth it's weight in gold. I think I remember your first post about this problem. I think we all told you about safety first. Just let it go, it is not your fault. Just don't let Gore know, haha.
ouch is right, glad you will be okay Helter Skelter - "I've got blisters on my fingers"

The problem was the angle of the valve and where the install guy had fitted it... It's only a light burn and not that bad..The chances of 'losing a hand' is so far remote from reality in this situation it's not worth considering as an option Thanks everyone for the concern -enjoying the attention from the Mrs Cheers Richard
Glad you're ok Richard We all have that instinct to stop the leak..............I've lost a lot of skin in the name of #608 or global warming........... It ain't worth it ................. next time let it go..........

thats why i like those yj or cd valve core removal tools because you and check to see if the valve is seated before you remove anything.
