yup! Yeah its an open air wood burning fireplace ( feels like I just cursed), thanks for all the replies so far.
yup!
I have an El Fuego wood stove I bought twenty years ago that I have just reinstalled after not using it for eight to ten years. Despite being a firebug, I got tired of stoking and yanked it out. Now, I'm back in the mood to stoke and plan to feed it this winter. The area I'm in has lots of free wood available, and my house has a lot of cut and stacked wood I've accumulated in the past 2-3 years without having a stove to burn it. So I expect to get some of my yard back as well. This stove has a nice glass door that allows a good view of the fire, and adjustable air supply taken from inside the house, and good protection from radiant heat which minimizes the space the stove takes and converts radiant heat into convection currents of heated air rising from around the integrated heat shield that surrounds the sides and back of the stove.
http://www.quadrafire.com/ If you want something this year better hurry up and get an order in. Leads times for any wood stove will continue to grow as winter sets in. From the sounds of it, you have a majestic open air wood unit. You would want an insert then, to put inside of it. http://www.quadrafire.com/products/i...oodInserts.asp
Well I don’t know much about this subject at all I will be learning this year also I just bought 2 wood stoves from home depot this spring because they were about 60% off on clearance Now I have more wood then I could ever burn right behind my home and even more at my friend’s house right down the road So for me it will be essentially free to heat with wood and as of right now I don’t mind the work Also it will allow my wife to heat the house to 85 if she wants without me being outside clocking the meter So I do think there are good reasons to use wood stoves although I am sorry I don’t know enough to answer your post but I would not “stay with gas”
Ok what is the majestic that is sitting there insert, direct vent, free standing gas stove? personally I would stay with gas for several reasons safety, smell, dust, carrying wood, emptying ashes if this sounds like fun in the snow go for it not my idea of fun.If it is gas then it would be easier to go gas to gas than gas to wood less labour and unless your getting a cheap woodstove which I think defeats the purpose then its going to cost you alot more to buy wood products over gas there is simply alot more raw material in a wood stove.Plus with a wood stove you cant get a remote with thermostatic control. However a model and serial number would be great it's possible what you have now was designed to look pretty not heat at all
what woodstove? Im thinking of installing a woodstove in my home (majestic fireplace there now), any suggestions?
what woodstove?
