Qiet Riot was a 2 hit wonder. They were for sure high energy heavy metal but not one of the greatest.

AC/DC is a great rocking band but one can only listen to them for so long and all the songs begin to sound the same. Most of them have the exact beat.

Queensryche......Heavy Metal Opera music is all I can say. I hate opera and his voice drives me nuts.

Sepultura should have been on there, but I guess Poison beat them out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y-DibwjEn0

It's hard enough to rank the bands let alone the songs. I didn't see this show so I'm not sure what the criteria was. I'll tell you that from a personal perspective when it comes to GNR I've always been a bigger fan of Sweet Child of Mine than Welcome to the Jungle.

    1. Guns and Roses

This band gave rock a much needed attitude injection and a re-introduction into the main stream. Definately an important band, but not #1. (Unfortunately, this spawned a whole slew of crappy knockoffs that should all ben destroyed)

    2.Metallica
A good band. Definately on the list, but not this high. They were largely a cult band until the commercial album sold out to MTV.

    3.AC/DC
Solid Rockers that deserve a slot in the list.

    4.Motley Crue
Solid Rockers that deserve a slot in the list.

    5.Def Leppard
    Haircut band.(see comments under G-N-R)

    6.Poison
    Haircut band.(see comments under G-N-R)

    7.Warrant
    Haircut band.(see comments under G-N-R)

    8.Whitesnake
    Haircut band.(see comments under G-N-R)

9.Van Halen w/ David Lee Ross
Solid Rockers that deserve a slot in the list.

    10.Queensryche
    Haircut band.(see comments under G-N-R)

While there are solid bands on this list, metal is a different kind of animal.

Where is Motorhead? Remember, Lemmy IS god! Excluding Led Zeppelin is just plain wrong.

Slayer, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest?

But the absolute, number one, metal band of all times has to be BLACK SABBATH!

    There is no other.

GNR made #1 on VH1's Top 100 greatest hard rock songs.

I was surprised even though I thought they should have been on the list that started this thread. I expected AC/DC to be at #1 with Back in Black but they were #2. GNR was #1 with Welcome to the Jungle. I don't agree. They should have flipped the top two. Good show though.

I dunno. Were they heavy metal or acid rock? I always thought they were acid

Metallica, Motorhead, & Slayer all deserved to be on that list.
I would have had Motorhead & Slayer a bit closer to the #1 spot though.

I have seen this show and don't agree with the rankings either. There is a difference between metal and hard rock and VH1 is including both in the rankings. Most on the list are hard rock and don't belong there.

Top 5 in my opinion are:

    1).Led Zeppelin
    2).Black Sabbath
    3).Judas Preist
    4).Mettalica
    5).Iron maiden

These 5 bands have greatly influenced heavy metal as we know it today.

    My #1 was Judas Priest

#2 Def Leppard before everyone knew who they were

I never considered Dio, Kiss , Guns and Roses, & Van Halen heavy metal. Maybe they were. Just never thought of them that way. They were just too mainstream to me

I think of Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Rush...those were the ones I listened to.

I could only take so much of Motorhead tho.

Back in the '80's when the thing to do here was go roller skating, when they began playing "Rock You Like a Hurricane"...you knew it was time to find a new favorite heavy metal band.

If the girls knew the words...I just couldn't listen in the same way

None of my GFs liked Judas Priest. I think that's why I liked them the best
