No 31 series coils are rated with 2.5 ton. It is rated with the 13AJN24, we use it often with that outdoor unit and add a TXV. Then the customer gets the 13 SEER. When we need 2.5 ton, we use the 32236 and add a TXV.

You can use it with the 13AJN30. SEER with a piston will definitely be lower. SEER with a TXV probably is just enough under 13 that they can't rate it. Capacity with the rated coils is 2.25 ton so they are light.

If you have access to A-S/Trane, for example, that coil can be used with a 4TTB3030 and TXV and get 13 SEER & 28,400 BTU. Or a Goodman GSX13030 and no TXV and get the same ratings. You just won't get 13 with the Rheem 2.5 ton and capacity is less.

If he wants to go with a Goodman, are you saying it won't need a TXV and just change the piston?? Wouldn't it be better to put a valve in??

Hey Baldloonie, Do you know if the AS Builders Grade Ingersoll Rand unit wouild be a match with AHRI ratings?? Supply house guys just say it's the same ratings as the AS but for some reason don't trust em.
    M= 07-m4ac3030a1000a

And have you or anyone used this unit??? Didn't look to bad at the supply house, had a microchannel coil and scroll in it with a sling fan blade. I also liked that there was no drier in it, so you get to put one on the outside..

Just wanted to give my buddy a cheaper option if he wanted to go that way. And I'm not a big fan of Goodman.... But may go that way.

I wouldn't call Armstrong much lower end than Lennox. They may not be quite as fancy as some of the Lennox Signature series outdoor units but still very comparable. The 4SCU units are similar to the XC except Armstrong has a compressor cover that XC units don't Now, furnaces are nearly identical. Lennox uses a different board. Armstrong 95s have stainless heat exchanger, Lennox aluminized like Concord! Go figure. Concord outdoor units are made in Mexico beside Merit units. The line between the brands is blurring.

If Armstrong is the "fighting brand" for Lennox.... just what the hell does that make a Concord ???

Absolutely. Just get the H4TXV01 from an Allied or ADP supplier and the 4A7A3030 would be a good match and a nice system for him. 10H1885 from R E Michel if you have them.

Or would the A/S 4A7A3030 work?? Not sure of the difference but it's the "Gold Series"

Would American Standard 4A7B3030 be rated for that coil too??

Would rather use AM than Trane.

Talked to my Rheem dealer and gave him the numbers off the coil. He told me it matched to a 2.5 ton 13 seer rheem unit.

Why is it really only good for a 2 ton unit??

And how do you match AHRI? Just look at the seer or eer? And Btu's??

Woops Read the chart wrong on there website it looks like it has a r22 piston in it..

And they also have an 410a piston listed for it. Would it be worth using a tvx instead of the piston?? Will I can much of any seer?

Never mind found the info on ADP's site it has a "bleed" R22 valve in it..
Looks like they sell only a "non bleed" 410a valve.. Will this valve required a start asist set up on the condensing unit or Are most r410A units coming through with em already on.. Sorry don't do much single phase stuff.

It's never been hooked up.. They installed the evap coil and furnace as part of building the house but the cond. unit was extra...

Wanted to go with R410a.. R22 is getting way to expensive.

Will this need a txv for 410a or is it like a goodman and use's a piston on the lower seer units????

I found the adp website I should just call them and armstrong in the moring to see what both the furnace and coil are rated for.. You resi guys have way to many makes to deal with.

We usually use that coil with a 2 ton outdoor unit and TXV then it rates with our products with full performance.
Ditto. I stupidly assumed it hadnt already been hooked up to an outdoor unit.

Concord is Armstrong, call them they can match it up for you or tell you the tonnage and piston size if your trying to match it up with a different brand.
