Ive just recently started my own business and have been needing to finish my business plan. I found a few searching with google, but alot of stuff in the sample ones dont seem to apply to me. I am going to start with something simple and build on it as my business grows.

Don't talk Him out of starting with a plan. I think we have all watched friends go out on their own and fail. It's hard to see good people go under.

I wish I had something formal to share with you.

Spend time figuring out who and what you want to be as a company and how you want to get there. I think by posting this you are showing you're not afraid to ask for advice. So keep asking and sometimes you will pay people handsomely for advice. It usually worth it.

And the most important things are.

    1. Don't use your company as a checking account. Draw a fair wage and keep the business and personal separate
    2. Don't buy a fancy new truck to start just something clean looking and reliable.

    Good luck man!

A Business Plan is a very formal plan that at some point you just have to sit down and write it out.

My son is the CEO, now, for our company which I started back in 1979. My business plan back then was to "to do A/C work and make money."

But when your business gets bigger and you are looking at financing and getting performance bonds and working on government projects THEN you need a formal business plan.

Your thread caught my eye. Being that I am now semi-retired I have the task of writing a business plan for our company. I almost have it done.

There is a "Business Plan Template" that I am using as my guideline. This template is published by the Small Business Administration (SBA). I think you can download this template here: www.sba.gov/training.

I've been working on it for a week now. It is boring as hell. .
