saw on the news the Discovery one that actually flew is traveling thru the streets of LA to get to a science center home...and they are cutting trees down and the tree huggers are flippin' out along the route
A month or so ago I had to go to Brooklyn to renew some liscenses. My GPS sent me back home through Manhatten so I thought that I would run up the "Left" side of Manhatten and see just how big Discovery is, or atleast see it sitting on the top deck of the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier (museum) as I rolled on through. Well that didn't happen, those bastages covered the shuttle up in a bubble. Very dissapointed ride home after that. I'll probably be going down soon to see it though as the shuttles have always intrigued me. ...Ron

So Long Space Shuttle I got to tour the ship once very cool shuttle. it will be sadly missed thats for sure Originally Posted by Space Racer Shuttle Discovery in dramatic Washington flyover: http://news.yahoo.com/us-space-shutt...133549534.html Check out this audio-enhanced video of a shuttle launch, and crank it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnoNITE-CLc A compilation of early launches: www.youtube.com/watch?v=s39mNwFuQDQ The first shuttle launch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdKlt...eature=related It's been real, and it's been fun, but it's been expensive. The space shuttle was originally predicted to cost $10.5 million per trip in 1972 dollars, or about $58 million per trip in 2012 dollars. But total cost per trip came out to $1.5 billion, for a factor of 25. How would you like to take a $400 plane trip and put it on your charge card, only to find out it really cost you $10,000 plus interest? http://blog.chron.com/sciguy/2011/04...on-per-launch/ And it seldom flew farther than LEO (Low Earth Orbit), about 200 miles up. (Apollo's trips to the moon were over 200,000 miles each way.) What went wrong? These articles explain it pretty well: http://www.thespacereview.com/article/1881/1 http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/shuttle.htm (Scroll down past the pictures to finish this article.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critici...huttle_program
