Good for you, working for a bad company can be really hard. Remember to appreciate the good ones.

And they treat their techs like kids. From what i heard, many companies are no different. But, i do sometimes hear good things about small companies who only hire top mechanics only, and put pressure on their apprentices to get good fast.

If i was skilled enough, i would hop around too until i found something that didnt stress me out.

I am a job hopper. Was with first job 14 years and now this one going on 15. Both great companies. Of course being a good employee makes a big difference. Not saying any of you are not good just been lucky to find 2 good non union companies with good pay and bennies. Never been laid off, knock on wood. Was a little scared when the recession hit but we seem to be pushing on.

I think job hopping is a good thing...to a point. I did 4.5 years at the first company I worked for in the trade, then a year at a second company, and am happy now at the third. I've been exposed to a lot of different types of equipment and jobs working for different companies.

Six companies in six years. Most recently, I left an ok company for a really good one. Big raise, great benies, blah blah blah. I told them I had a good job but wasn't looking for a temporary thing. They were a union shop and told me they had to lay off three first year apprentices before they could cut me loose. Well, they lost two accounts and laid me off second - after the first year with a drug history and attendance problem. I was the only one with a family and the only source of income in my household! This was a family owned shop too. I was simply a guy they needed to get their summer jobs done and then I was their highest paid apprentice. There is very little loyalty out there and they expect us to be loyal? Now, on the other hand, with every job it gets a little harder to explain why I've had so many jobs. I can find a job relatively easily but not better jobs. At some point we have to settle for a few years to show stability and that we're worth hiring. Wherever I go, I gotta hang for a few years.

When I retired from the service, I worked a series of jobs that I completed. My wife started nagging me about job hopping, but I seriesly didn't think of it that way. Some jobs only last until you complete the job. I did, however, line up a job with a commercial kitchen service company. I loved the job. Everyone was great to work. The costumers really appreciated the service. You know how costumers often think that when you get in and fix down equipment and get the temps down etc that they just take it for granted? We had some of the big names in restuarants, and they really appreciated good service. A few would give me comps to bring my wife in for a date. I always love happy costumers, but the company had a bad spell and an audit resulting in me getting laid off. I went to work in house, but now I contract most of my own work, again. My wife says it is job hopping, again. If opportunity presents, I'ld work for another refrigeration company. Now I do a bunch of convienence stores. Friday, I picked up a four store chain. They weren't happy with who they had, because they assert that he would stop over, get the machine running (for now) and take the money running. When the problem recured the next day he would take forever to return, and give every excuse. May I ask a question? I make errors, and I'm sure it happens to all. Sometimes it really does look like the problem is fixed, but as long as we get right in there and make it good, we still get them happy costumers that are almost as important getting lots of money. Isn't that how it goes with y'all, as long as you get any mistake corrected in a timely manner, it isn't as if a rework is going to be the end of business in most cases? I'm hoping if this independent work goes well, that I'll be doing this local stuff a long time, though I am not dismissing the possibility of working for another company (note that no mention of doing more in house work is being mentioned).

Its the way of America now jobs have no loyalty to their employes even if they are good. The management takes and takes and will keep treating you worse and worse if you let them. Job hopping increases the money you make and teaches you new skills the current employer wont pay for. Its sad but that is the way it is. Companies stop caring about the value of doing well by their loyal employes.

During my apprenticeship I bounced from one large Oem to another. I eventually made the switch to servicing supermarkets and I couldn't be happier!

Used to be a job hopper myself. Found a place that fit well and been about 8 years now. Although the corporate mentality starting to creep in like a fungus. Never know may take up hopping agin. It was fun before and every hop brought more $$.

Nothing wrong with job hopping. Once you find a good company and one that best fits you, you will stay put.

Are you hoping all over America or the world,, Because that would be great. I always tell young one s that with this trade if your good,, you can go all over the world with your two hands. Obvisily the hotter the better. Always wanted a cruise ship gig but had the little one's.

I guess u can say i a too my current job ive been here for little late over a year took awhile but i think I've found somewhere i wanna stay a few years.
