They used to call it Builder Express. But as mentioned, they program all the Q&A that's possible into them, so when you select what you want, the program includes the stuff you want. I had to modify a VAV controller once to use one of the outputs. It was a nightmare, taking me through tons of PLC to finally find the real point that I needed. We write everything from scratch. The good part is that you can create "Assemblies" and save parts of your logic embedded in your application, so you don't have to re-create the wheel every time you want to run the same type of programming in a different application. It's like anything else, the more you use it and play with it, the deeper it goes.

FX Builder is simple and some what limited...

Best advise,,, drag out some blocks, connect some dots and simulate... Each one has a help file and each one is more or less butt simple....

Good tool though to start with as your tool box only has the tools you need to do the basics.

Just gotta play it like a video game, you get the gist here...

ditto. i worked with the fx line for a few years and even making small changes to the jci applications was difficult if not impossible. i usually just gave up after awhile and wrote my own from scratch.

The code these pre-built applications generate is pretty much unreadable unless you developed the software. It is VERY VERY hard to understand to make small modifications and if you want to use it to learn I think you would be very confused. If you want some small sample FX Builder files to learn programing I can send you some simple ones. If you are looking to see how JCI does its pre-canned code I would say stay away, but that is just my opinion.

Go here http://www.johnsoncontrols.com/content/us/en.html, click login, Building Efficiency Customers and the once there, click on the contact link on the bottom and ask them what you need to do to get access.

The vendor that sold you FX Builder software will have access to those apps.

So it would be impossible to have a glimpse on such file, unless one is working for/with JCI closely? And I thought I could learn some actual HVAC programming on my own to supplement my degree.

They application files are posted on the JCI ABCS exchange web site. If you don't have access to the web site your supplier does. These files caused me more headaches and call backs than they saved me programming time, I'll never use one again.

Hi again, since now I have some free time I decided to look into the FXtools software. In Fxbuilder when I try to open the wizard, it asks for application which I can't find with the software. In the manual this situation is omitted and there are some nice screenshots of air-handlers, rooftops, etc. Where (and if) can I find those applications which are shown on the screenshots?
