Do you still have a copy of your owners manual, I'll be willing to pay for a digital copy of it if it is for a Preway B142b

    Thanks for your time,
    Rob.

Since it is obvious by the professionals that replacing a Preway chimney systems with used parts, (if you could even get them), is not advisable, could you recommend a system to replace the whole Preway chimney system that has just been removed for a roof/chimney repair ? I believe that Preway is no longer. What is compatible for replacement?

I am moving into a house I recently purchased. The fireplace i have is a Preway, and since they are out of business I can't find a manual. My mechanical inspector is requiring I show the specifications. If you still have the manual, I would greatly appreciate a little help.

    no justification

We're talking about a USED factory built fireplace here, right? As in not original condition as in the lances on the pipe joints have to be damaged to disassemble then re-assemble the pipe. We're also talking about installing an appliance to contain fire that is no longer listed, therefore illegal to install per most building codes. Since the mfr. is no longer around, there is no one for warranty or support. Also, if they find out, your insurance carrier may cancel your homeowners. In the even of a loss, they may be able to deny coverage.

Factory built fireplaces were never tested, designed or intended to be moved from one place to another.

Now, other than saving a few bucks, give me one logical justification to put people's lives at risk.

    UNSAFE PREWAY?

If the unit was installed by a professional, why wouldn't it be safe?

    Preway metal fireplace manual

Hi, TwinGlenda - Just found this old post. We have a Preway, but don't know the model #. It's conical and bright orange, looks very much like a Malm Zircon. Building Dept. wants the model number and owner's manual before we can get a permit to instal. I'm hoping you can help...

Hi, I too would like to get a copy of the Manual. If you could so kindly email it to me, I will be highly grateful. I have a B142B Type E that came with the home I bought this summer (07) and I have never used a fireplace before. I want to make sure I am using it properly. It has a gas pipe under the wood stand and a valve on the floor. I am assuming this is a gas assisted wood burning fireplace but I could be wrong. I look forward to the manual. Thank you.

    Hi TwinGlenda;

I too am looking for a copy of the instructions to a Preway stove. I would be very grateful for a copy. I just joined this site and will try to put my email in my profile bio.

    How do you like yours?

We enjoy picking up preway fireplaces with our forklift really high and then dropping them into the dumpster. They make a nice smashing sound

keeping the fire in the fireplace

The reason I'm being this way is I'm concerned for your well being. Let's think about this for a minute:
You have possession of a USED fireplace. How was it originally installed? How was it used? Maintained? Did they ever introduce any harsh chemicals in the fire? Sweep with a wire brush? Have chimney fires? Burn coal? How was it dismanteled, handled, and stored?

If this was going into someone else's home, you would have to worry about the Implied Warranty of Merchantability and Implied Warranty of Fitness for a Particular Purpose. Failing to disclose all the conditions of this fireplace to an unwary homeowner could be determined to constitute fraud, as in jail.

Even in your own home, you could burn yourself and family up. Does your homeowner's insurance know about this? BTW, your Bldg. Inspector should know better.

What you have is a used, possibly damaged product designed to contain fire within a dwelling that you are proposing to install in your own home. There is no manufacturer to back a warranty and no valid listing anymore as it is used. The codes require you to install a listed product therefore this does not count.

As for it being inspected and found to be " in very good condition". Who inspected it? You? An engineer? Did anyone inspect the inner flues for signs of previous chimney fires, temper color change or intergranular corrosion? You mentioned chimney and an air kit-what about the termination, firestops, attic insulation shield, elbows, spark strip, roof or chase top flashing, chase top spacers, etc.? You cannot install it without all the required parts, you cannot mix and match from other brands, and you cannot go freestyle and have custom replacement parts made up.

Please don't take this wrong but your attempt at saving a few bucks could very likely cost you your home and your lives. Don't do it! The only suitable place for a used fireplace is the scrap yard. Sell the steel and use the money to buy a video of a fire loop DVD or even a plasma fireplace.

In my own home. The building inspector said I could installit but I had to do it by the manufacturers specs.

Sorry, it's "new" to me! It is used and in very good condition with all the necessary triple wall chimney pipe and intake air pipe.

    new Preway?

What do you mean by "new" Preway? Are you saying you have a brand new out of the box never been used fireplace, chimney and other components or did you get your hands on a used unit?

    Dying to know.

I tried that, but it turns out the company went bankrupt in 1989. So, I was hoping to find someone that might have one lying around they would be willing to part with or make a copy of.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'd start by looking for the rating plate for the equipment usually found in the bottom of a gas fireplace. It should have the name and address of the manufacturer, and perhaps a phone number.

Call the manufacturer and ask for a manual.

The alternative would be to start doing a Google search for the manufacturer or the brand name of the fireplace, and see if you can locate a dealer or the manufacturer than way.

I'm looking for and instalation moanual or copy of one for a Preway model B128B, B136B or B136EM fireplace. I do believe the instalation specs are the same for all three. I have one but cannot install till I have the manufactures specs.

Thanks to any who can help me with this!
