Like said in another post. Have at least a month savings to hold the family over. You go to work on the 15th. They will probably hold the first week check. I quit my job once. 25 years, couldn't take anymore of my bosses BS. He called his boss in the middle of the night. They sent me and him home to cool off. Went back to work 3 days later. All is well. That was 2 years ago. Roy

Never saw them. If I had I would've sacrificed them to the Gods. I think that's what happened anyway.

I am speaking strictly within my capacity as a social misfit. I'd rather work on air conditioners than work with people. I understand machinery.

If your boss/manager does not know how to manage people, then he has passed the Peter Principal point, and I'd say don't wait around for him to figure it out. One of the earlier posts said something to the effect of "Praise in public, criticize in private", and that is how I have managed crews that worked for me. The only thing I'd add to that is that I never ask the guys to do something that I wouldn't do myself. Occasionally I have to prove that, but that's life. After the proof, they know, because leading by example is the ultimate example.

I'd say move on before you become the next victim. When this guy's management wakes up to what's going on, he may be reporting to you on your next job. I hope you are kind to him.

I can't say I have. But I'll keep this thought in mind if I encounter something like this in the future.

Have any of you known it was your last day working for a jerk like this, then go in and start demolishing part of his office while he's in it. Like breaking his pencils in half, chunking his prize trophy bass from the wall onto the wall, wrapping his mouse cord around his cell phone then use it like a yo-yo, or pissing on his desktop???

People will treat you the way you let them.

No way will I tolerate a boss verbally abusing me. I feel I have good work ethic and will learn about anything I am interested in. The first time someone tries to verbally abuse me, they will know it's the last. I've been in those initial situations and it never went any further.

Now...if I ever did something wrong on purpose...ok, I would deserve it.

Been in a very similar situation before, get out... I did. Sure feels good to be away too.

My old supervisor (note, no boss, my true boss I'd do anything for, he was a great guy) would constantly chew people out. You were never good enough, smart enough, fast enough etc. It just started off as the slightly bad motivational talks. Not much longer your sitting there hearing that you're a stupid f'er, worthless blah blah blah. I'm glad I kept my cool, but I would like to see someone loose it on him, might make him re-think being a Richard.

If there's other oppertunities take em! If there's not, start looking and making yourself known in the city, eventually something will open up and you'll wonder how you lasted as long as you did.

Quite an odd chap, this.

I knew one guy around 26-27 who managed a freezer warehouse in town here for a larger company. He was always an a-hole to his employees but one day in particular he seemed to go right strange. He tore a strip off one of my supply houses manager's sons everyday for weeks and the poor 17 year old who was 6'5" was practically in tears when he got home. Finally the kid's father, 6'5' as well and full of attitude confronted this little weasel and tore him up and down...Now the fun began. I was contracted to work on the field coolers for the same head office this weasel worked for..He called and yelled at my office (my wife) for no reason except he had to take crap from my friend. My wife immediately called me upset, I took off over to the weasel's place to 'staighten' him out. As I walked in I saw one of the other kids who worked there and asked him where the weasel was. "As soon as he saw you drive up, he hi-tailed it out the back door and ran across the field!" Apparently he never returned to work.

Verbally abuse their workers usually have issues such as inferiority complexes. Treat their ignorance with intelligence. Burn them where it hurts. Find a new job and take all the cutomers you can!!

Yep. Get him into a meeting. If he's got the balls to chew the entire crowd, then everyone should leave him standing there with his jaw on the floor.

Gonna be a LOOOOOOOOOONG day for him if no one works...

If you like your co-workers then talk them into confronting the boss together. He'll have a hard enough problem replacing one guy and you'll scare the hell out of him if he thinks he may lose more.
I agree with what was stated earlier. Praise should be given publicly and the bitchin' should be done one on one. Sometimes other techs and/or my dispatcher will get pissed because they think I should lay into one of the techs but they don't know I already have.....When it's there turn though they appreciate the discretion.

It didn`t even happen to me but it happened to a good friend of mine at the same company and he quit the next day.

I know being a boss is tough enough but there is a limit to what you should have to put up with.

everybody makes mistakes, i`m no different ,but there are reasonable ways of reprimanding someone.

You want to know when to should tell him to take a hike? Now. It's summer and everyone needs technicians.It should be easy to find a job. If you wait 2 months you might as well wait untill next summer.

I always felt someone working for me could jam me up more by leaving than I could jam them up by getting weard. Educate not humiliate. Also someone said troublesome people are often people in trouble. If thats the case run don't walk cause your probably not a shrink. Right? Some people self destruct. Their life plan.
