No offense to the IT guy. I have had huge problems with strict IT types that "Know how to do this"! They go an "fix" stuff that ain't broke but just doesn't work (right). Worked with others IT people that when we tell em what we want say "Is that ALL !?" and make it happen. Usually wicked fast too boot.

The Win hostId should never change once the AX software is installed. That's what screwed up the re-license PC, the wireless printer "spoofed" the MAC address in the registry and rendered the AX host Id to be different. Even the customers PC doctor couldn't figure out how to undo the MAC address thing without doing a OS re-install. The re-license was faster and cheaper.

He is on vacation this week but i'll make sure he has been using Admin when installing the software. I get your point on not having IT mess with the AX setup but our guy is not typical. He is AX certified, sets up most of the servers in the field, does most of our graphics, and wears many hats. We have had no problems in the past with him setting up the software but have not had to do so in quite a while so maybe he did something differently.

Best info I have is that the win host Id is linked to the machine MAC address. If possible install the AX software yourself. Then do the license request, be nice but keep IT outta your AX stuff. They almost always try to fix it before it's all the way broke which makes it worse. Had a customer install a wireless printer that Totally hosed his MAC address and his AX software. Only choice was to buy a "Re-License", that sucked.

Is the IT guy installing AX with administrator privileges?

    Tridium Host ID numbers changing?

Maybe i missed something somewhere but this has happened twice now. Our IT guy gets in a new laptop, installs some software and ends up emailing me the Host ID number so i can deal with getting licenses through JCI and AAM.

I get licenses and send them to the tech who the laptop now only to get a call saying the Host ID does not match and the ID on his laptop is now completely different than what i was originally sent.

Is there some kind of 'oh by the way' think i missed or forgot about? We did have a laptop repaired once that had its main board repaced and the Host ID changed and that makes sense to me but not changing randomly for no reason.

    All help is appreciated,
    Ken
