When I was employable I worked for a guy and if you fixed a problem and didn't check the filter along with other obvious stuff he wanted you to be free. That is not to pay you. He wanted to drive a point home that when you're there do the whole job. Don't just fix the problem but also look around and see if when you leave there will be a satisfied customer. As far as I know this policy was never enforced and probably couldn't be if a food fight started but it put techs on their toes. Many people don't value maintenance. They will always be BAD customers. No mater how much you need them they are the ones you need to position yourself to leave. Find the good guys that don't just call when everything is broke and they need a fix. I have a property manager that won't allow anything to be broke and he pays in 0-10 days like clockwork. Some only value you when their in a fix. No fun. I wonder when their sick if that's the only time they think about a physical?

    How about EACs?

If they have an EAC, you can just assume you/re going to have to clean the blower and a-coil. Unless they actually clean the thing every thirty days.

    Funny you should ask!!

Friday, got call from Real estate co, we do work for, has tenant, no cooling, the lady at real estate office asked the tenant if they had changed the filter. - reply was what filter - are we suppose to change a filter. Needless to say, my tech found stopped up indoor coil with filter that looked like a piece of plywood.
We get these all the time - even from homeowners.

I get alot of them that are the ulta allergen filters that they say lasts up to 90 days. From what I've seen is you get 2 - 3 weeks max. I've made alot of money on those filters and have never sold nor recommended them.

hummmmmmm I would say 25 % of my calls are because of dirty filters . I get there , its iced up . I see the new filter and ask them how often they change it and they tell me all the time . I go out to the garbage can and retreave the totally plugged filter and take it back to them and say .....OH REALLY. De-ice the unit and tell them if it happens again they better let it defrost before they turn it on..... oh and by the way your wrecking your unit so better buy filters all the time and change they or pay me big bucks to replace it. Also let them know when their defrosting it they better do what they can to keep from getting water all over the components , I have had some of those modules let the gas valve open full bore without even proving there was a flame ......DANGER DANGER DANGER Will Robinson . lol

Yep...been on more than I care to count! Ahhhh the look on their face when they find out the charge to tell them to change their filter...."You mean I gotta pay for this?" Yes, you do...
I use pleated...50% to 70% efficient depending on my mood...

    Filter ??

I was reading some old post about home owners not changing their a/c filters....is that really such a common problem? Do you all get service calls were the only thing wrong with the system is a dirty filter?

2nd part what type of filter do you use in your own home? Do you use ratings such as MERV ,just the cheapest filter at wal-mart or super duper UVC HEPA setup?
