My brother passed away last December and I was off Thursday, Friday and the weekend and Monday it was cold and boss wanted me to run after hours calls I said ok, until he opened his mouth and said you just had a bunch of days off, now it's time to make up for it. Quit the nexted morning. He was not one of the brightest guy's around any way, but he used the wrong language to make a point.. It is up to each company to show some compassion when one of there employee's has a death in the family. As far as paying for time off, I leave that up to the owner. But, never open your mouth and state that the time off was used for other reasons. It's just rude and shows no respect.
Last May my fiance was killed in a car accident. I ended up missing 8 days of work before I was ready to come back. My company was very supportive during the whole ordeal. Two of the owners, service manager, and nearly all the Techs came to the funeral home. When I did come back the owner called me in his office to see how I was doing. He informed me that he would "let" me use my vaction time for the days I was off. I really wasn't expecting him to pay me for the days I missed but that just left a bad taste in my mouth that he acted like he was doing me a favor my letting me burn all my vaction days.
I worked for a company years ago started his service department when i got home from work one afternoon i got a call that my brother was killed in a auto accident and my boss would not pay me for the three days i took off without a death certificate i walked out never to return. even if this person is not the greatest tech. show some compassion his mother just died are you that cheap. i hope noe theres enough bad bosses out there don't add yourself to that list
Part Time Help Got sun burned last weekend while helping with the youth from church and missed 3 days this week. Graduate student and licensed teacher. Has worked with me for 3 summers. Only have to tell him once how to do something. Saving $ to pay for his wedding next month. I paid him for a full week today. Its your call but you did say good employee.
Part Time Help
In october my grandmother passed away company gave me time off with pay,6 weeks later my mother passed away my boss gave me as much time as I wanted even came to the service and bought flowers.Im telling you straight up if you dont pay him and give him time to grieve he will never respect you again.
I don't know what is common in your area, but around here it would be rare to get compassion pay. If my boss did go that extra little but for me, I would sure remember down the road. I think he deserves it, especially if he's a good tech, and what better way to set yourself apart from other companies. Treat your employees well and the good ones will repay it time and again. Just my .02.
would you like to be paid if it was your mother? he has lots of headaches now....don't add to them.
We get 5 days for mother.Show some compassion. You find out a companies worth in a time of need.
Had an employee (GOOD) last November had a death in the family. The company paid his time off and purchased an airline ticket so he would be there with his family.
I have a good employee who's mother passed away. He was off three days to take care of personal matters. We have no barvement (sp?) benefits for our company. Is that normal for a service company to not pay for days missed when your mother dies? I am wondering what other companys do? Please give me your input on this. Thanks
