Just Came Back from Vegas

They are continually building something or other.

Condo's seem to be coming on strong

They have a 9 Billion That's with a B

Development going in by the Bellagio with a hotel/casino and condo's

New Condo's being built by somebody named Trump near the Strat

The Hotel/Casino San Remo is going to become a Hooters.

I wonder what the Hooters Girls will wear in Vegas.

the round hotel was the landmark across from the convention center think it is a parkinglot now.
the next one to go will be the showboat they are in the process of removing the asbestoes & glass now talk is they are going to build a hotel that will cater to the hispanics

In Las Vegas.........

The Hookers and Hotels gotta be fresh. The older they get...... the less attention gets paid to um.

The first time I went to Vegas was for a RSES convention in 1978. When we were there again about 3 years ago there was not a thing that I recognized from my first trip.

Fremont Street did kind of look a little firmilar but that was it. The whole street is now covered with a light show canopy. Back in '78 they still had vehicle traffic on Fremont Street.

Las Vegas, Nevada and Dallas, Texas have two things in common.

Neither believe in historic building preservation and both are places of gambling.

Only in Dallas the gamble is every day when one takes to the freeways and side roads.

What exactly interests you about the older Las Vegas buildings?

vegas is a constantly changing place, most of it for the better. last time i was there they had realy fixed up Fremont street which is most of the old las vegas. well worth seeing. last time i was out was about 5 yrs ago, ready to go back.

the land is worth more than the historic value of the buildings, a well located casino will mke millions so why worry abouth abouth other things

I have always been interested in buildings in Las vegas, even whan I was a kid.

Never really made plans to go there or looked into it (Not yet anyway)

Anyway, it seems that quite a few of the old buildings in vagas have been demolished.

Every now and then on TV, you see them showing buildings being blown up, or torn down. Today they showed an entire casino and hotel being blown down to dust.

I saw this several years ago with the tall round hotel (Can't even remember the name of it.)

My question is, WHY?

Vegas is such on old city with so much history, why not preserve it and keep it the same?

I have heard at least one person say that they went to vegas 30 years ago and recently went back, and the whole strip has changed.

If it were up to me, I would try to keep the city as much the same as possible.

I must say, as much interst as I have taken in vegas over the years, I really have no interest in visiting it. Why, you ask?

Frankly, I want to see what vegas USED to be, not the way some new architect THINKS it should look like after so much hard work went into it many years ago.

Just imagine how those origional architects must feel, now that the buildings they worked so hard to design and build are just gone, and all because someone with some bigger and better idea can make them huge amounts of money.


And the actual contruction workers who built those buildings? WHEW! If I was a part of the crew who worked so hard to build a nice skyscraper only to have it torn down by someone only a few decades later, I'd be pretty ticked off.
