i worked for the downstate office for NYC,went in with 10 years of mixed commercial and residential experience...86' to 97',and thought i died and went to hog heaven with the engineers,factory,manuals,winter training.the only frustrating thing is when your good with one style of unit say large tonnage recip start-ups air/water cooled,VAV,rooftop heating they keep you there as an expert to put out all the fires on multi-unit installs when the installers call with all the problems of sign-offs and such.if your that style of tech and likes challenges,give them a call or send in a resume with a follow-up call in the spring..they are always hurting for commercial rooftop techs and people with good people skills. good luck

Thanks guys I guess it makes sence not advertising if you have to wead out a lot of blow hards. Maxster I respect your advice and I will look in to trane btw do you work there?

give them a call great oppurtunity to do commercial and industrial equipment with a good basic background and if you enjoy the customer interaction,Trane will have plenty of customers and the range of units and working with other HVAC contractors to get the stuff on-line. http://www.trane.com/AboutTrane/Empl...ob.asp?id=8074

I want to see a little gumption and have them come to me, we have tried adds and we get wives and girlfriends calling, deadbeats, ect. call make an appt. and show me why I should let you join our team.

I live in the Chicago area and there are ALOT of newspaper ads for commercial hvac guys. HOw about if you attend a local ASHRAE meeting -- its all Commercial guys there and someone is bound to know whos looking to hire . Or..just phone or send your resume to all the Commercial HVAC Companys that youd consider working for . Have you dont this yet ?

Thank you Hvacfella, Ive done that in the past and it works but im looking to go in to commercial work most of the good supply houses in my area deals with residential and dont have much more to say that I knew allready. The nice thing about that is I can go any were with the same pay or better. I guess I left things out of the post, like every thing. Im looking for a new job in commercial, I do mostly this type of work most of the time and am sick of on call and fixing the same problems over and over again for residential. Open the phone book to HVAC contractors , close your eyes , spin around 10 times and put your finger on the page , whereever it lands call that company and ask when they want you to start !! If you are looking for a real answer I just gave it to you ......oh it also helps to get to know the counter guys @ the supply house. They are usually the first to know when a company is looking for technicians.

If its in the hvac trade , then, id go to hvac wholesalers and ask if you can put a 3x5" card up on thier bulletin board . ALot of Contractors come in and will look up there oftentimes. Id ask the countermen if they know of any contractor hiring too. Lastly, id get in with a couple of Headhunter Companies who will go to bat for you and usually at no expense to you.

Whats the best way to look for a new job these days? Seems like no one advertises any more?
