Superheat and subcooling are always important ,but in your case it will be used more for protecting the compressor and making sure the system charge isn't to far out of wack.

There will be no one right # since the systems are mismatched. Learn to understand fully what those numbers mean and you'll go far.

Being the system is mismatched it might be harder to determine the ideal superheat and subcooling, but you still need to look at these values. Remember the compressor is a vapor pump. You can not compress liquid so you better have SH. If you have a TX valve it will automatically adjust to maintain a certain SH, so you have to check charge by subcooling.

TC said it best "2 pressures, 4 temperatures = success". These are manufacture system set point to ensure system efficiency. If you charge units accordingly then you have returned the unit back to factory specs. If your still having trouble understanding just email me and I will be glad to go in greater depths, I think all techs, rookies and veterans should go back to the basics as most of the time the problems we encounter are simple, we just tend to forget the basics. Thank You

superheat and subcooling should be done on every system.

    2 pressures, 4 temperatures = success

especially on a mismatched system you could cause damage of the proper sh/sc isnt achieved.

Mismatched systems will find a balance point somewhere, its up to you as a tech to make it the best balance point for the systems life and customers pocket.

Why would you not calculate superheat and subcooling on every system?

Sorry not allowed to give DIY here. Call a pro.

is it worth finding super heat or subcooling if the units are mismatched
