Be ready to work long hours very good money if you play your cards right.
Well I start May 21st, and I already know that I'll be working at the BP refinery in indiana. Will be working 60+ hours a week which is fine with me, looking forward to learning and earning some real money finally!
I'm in this year's apprenticeship class for 597, but for HVAC/R. We started with like 35 guys, took around 7 more off the list, and now have the biggest class ever for the HVAC/R side. Negotiated the contract for an apprentice raise in June, and got some good guys ready to turn some wrenches. I'd say things are looking good for the future. at least for 597. As for the fitter and welding side, I know they usually take waaaay more. Over 100. Anyway, good luck man

To the Trane guy, is the Trane-Chicago wages competative with the Local 597 total package? I would assume it is for that office not to be organized.

You 597 guys, any idea what your contract is going to look like this time around?

There are too many variables to know where you stand. 1) How many guys are graduating this year vs. replacements needed to fill that gap? 2) How much have the contractors grown? 3) What was last years class? What was the 5yr average? It seems that over the last 2yrs our local (189) has taken some really small classes, the economy has been in the crapper, and new construction has been way down. Sooner or later those small classes will need to be made up for.
Local 597 Score Just got my final score and number for the apprenticeship today. got an 86% overall (exam + interview + education + work experience) and that makes me number 190 out of 1064 on the list. I think I'm too far down the list to get in this year. Any opinions on what my chances are this year?
