    Do you think maybe he was referring to start up of the unit on a call for heat? I cant imagine shutting down the primary to bring on the secondary heat. Maybe I missed something here?

    yes these are single stage heat pumps and I'm thinking the same thing as far as defrost,etc.

    Is this a heat pump? Then it begs the question what about defrost and when the compressor cannot keep up with demand? I see plenty of tranes with strip heaters working when the compressor is running as long as they are heat pumps. If we are talking about electric-electric units then what trane said is true. Chillerout1 is correct about special orders on trane equipment.

    i woudl rate that statement as mostly true,but they do make special order units that will heat and cool at the same time for dehumidification purposes I have had several I-packs that were set up that way from trane, there was also a place in marietta ga that would modify units to dehumidify for trane
