geowisdom Any more ideas/referrals? I called a few guys from the IGSHPA directory. I think I am meeting my guy this am and will discuss my concerns, although it is already 30 min past when he was to meet call/me. Got down to 48 last night 20+ mph winds and highs were 68 yeaterday. Upstairs 69 downstairs 67 this morning. Burned a little wood yesterday am to warm house a little but didn't burn @ night. 69up/67downstairs means the house is pretty well insulated right? Be well Mike

grr Thanks again for everyone's input and any more you all may have. Jongig took your advice, listened, and everything. Problem is I already paid the guy almost all the $$, so I may go thru a checklist of "must do's" as some others have suggested and see if he will/can do it and if not I will get someone else. I am just trying to make the best of a cruddy situation and not make any more mistakes. IGSHP or whatever certified means they paid their fees and passed the test, it doesn't mean they have 50+ successful installs under their belt. I was kinda looking for some help from another experienced installer in the way of a referral for someone in central ohio as well as much of the advice I have gotton so far. I would like to find a new guy since I am pretty sure this guuy won't work out. I should know more tomorrow.

It's not a hornet's nest yet, only thing done so far S/R ducts connected wrong. Good news is unit is in my basement (2 wks ago I paid for it and it wasn't there for a week) and I am prretty sure it is a Heat Controller HTV 048, so at least I have the darn thing. I am trying not to get too upset, it's only money and heat right? be well Mike 1. You know, I gave you the best advice and you didn't pay attention. Go to the IGSHPA website and find someone in your area. My experience with these folks is that they want to help, even from afar. 2. Yea, I can afford to put in a few GTHP systems also but it kind of wrecks the return on investment thing and to me anyway, ROI is very important. 3. Call the Attorney General or your own pitt bull attorney if you have one. I have an attorney that has breached the corporation and made it to personel assets and that gets em working fast. 4. If you don't care about the money, fine, but you might be helping someone who doesn't by getting this contractor off the market. 5. Call the manufacturer and find out who the supplier is and start making complaints.

The Model No. for a Carrier 2-stage Geo Unit is 50YD*049xxxx *V = Vertical, H=Horizontal, S=Split System. After the equipment size number iare a number of other designators for such things as, for packaged units, where the return is (each one is custom built), what controls are on it, heat exchanger options, such as copper or cupronickel coil, and whether there's a de-superheater in it. The 'standard' units are built with a de-superheater for DHW, while one would specify if they wanted it without DSH. It takes about 6-weeks from order to delivery of a Carrier/Bryant/Climatemaster packaged heat pump. Constant pressure pump and pressure tank is hooked up to well. In our area, this is all done by the well drilling company. We take over at the pipes where they enter the building. materials paid for and 1/2 labor paid. Our state laws forbid getting more than 1/3 of the total up front. After that billing is done per contract criteria. Installer said he was putting in Carrier unit. If your unit doesn't have the model numbers as I indicated, it is NOT a Carrier unit. Installer's license #is his dad's Maybe you should speak with his dad, eh? He wants to make it single stage heating (why buy 2 stage then?) He has some ulterior motive methinks. 2-stage is the most energy efficient under all conditions. It's also the most comfortable and if you intend to use the system for summer cooling as well, depending on how your heating/cooling loads vary the system could be over or undersized for cooling. If I were you, I'd demand to see the Manual 'J' heating/cooling load calcs before allowing work to continue. no pad under the unit Maybe they'll install it before they actually do the install or is it already installed? I would NOT accept the system without sound deadening under the heat pump. The unit will vibrate internally and without sound deadening you may be plagued with noises. no flexible transitions tied in to supply/return. These are highly recommended if not mandatory for all geo heat pumps. Again, it goes to eliminating noises from vibrations. Should I stop now while I can and get someone else? I don't know about getting someone else but I'd certainly stop until I had a chance to go over the complaints you already have. If you don't get any satisfaction, then you can seek another but keep in mind, bringing someone else into the middle of a hornet's nest is dicey at best. The new company doesn't know who's at fault, you or the other company. On the other hand, if the installing company has already breached the contract by bringing in other equipment, I'd run for the hills personally.
Based on what you have said sounds as if you need to tell the guy to stop and have a talk with him. This worries me the most He wants to make it single stage heating (why buy 2 stage then?) I agree you paid for a two stage he should not downgrade you. Maybe he is trying to save a few bucks on a single stage thermostat. no pad under the unit. Get ot off the floor to keep it quiet and to prevent it from rusting out. no flexible transitions tied in to supply/return. you need these to keep any vibrations from the unit being transmitted through the entire house. And if you are paying for a Carrier you should get a Carrier. It may affect resale value of your house. Everyone knows Carrier not everyone knows Heat controller (even if they are the same unit from Climate Master) This really bothers me: materials paid for and 1/2 labor paid. I did not pay anything for my heatpump until work was completed. After being around her for some time I feel really lucky to have gotten the contractor I did who interestingly enough was also the lowest bidder by a siginificant margin.
If he's IGSHPA trained I would trust him and if not I'd search for and pay more or whatever is the cost to get someone that is.
