Hey spotts, what model d-tek are you talking about?

The sensors going bad have always been D-Tek's only downfall. Easy solution to that though, always keep extra !! The first leak detector I ever bought was a CPS,in other words Complete Peice of SHI@T !!! The only other leak detctor I would ever own besides my D-Tek is the old H-10. Only problem with them is you need 120VAC.

I just bought my first D-tek

have used it on 3 systems that leak 3+ lbs per year. It don't find squat even tho I get alot of false alarms if the tip touches anything at all. I just hate it. They're sending me a new one today. I tested it on my gauge hoses by loosening an end. I can hear the leak with my ear (and I'm deaf) before this POS goes off. I literally have to squirt freon right into it.

Did you ever consider phoning their tech support number?

I was on a roof one hot afternoon and the disply on the charging scale blanked out. So I phoned their suport number and the guy told me .. "Yes, the display will go blank when the temperature of the unit exceeds XXX degree!"
He was correct.
And he was johnny on the spot with the answers too.


I apy too much money for my tools and depend waaay to heavily on them for me to abuse them.
I dont even abuse chains.
Too much is riding on theri holding together. Seriously!


Sure, I've lost my temper at tools before and thorwn things and had a hissy fit.
But I grew out of that stage.
I had to. I simply could NOT afford to keep on throwing away tools.
Good thing Flike dont make leak detectors though.
Cause if they did, they would only find one type of freon at a time. And the models for the other types of freons would cost extra and be seperate insturements.




I just played with the new D-Tel Select today. $334. Ouch!!!

Not sure I am ready to buy.
I want to see how well I do with my new ultrasonic.

Ya know ... with that ultrasonic, I can hear my eyes blink!

I agree totally, too many bad products over the years, they will have to prove themselves to me for a long time before I spend money on TIF products again.

What? I bought one last month and have not heard that. Also I just checked their webb site and no notice of a re-call.

I think the select is great.

Why dont you just go buy the new heated pentode by Tif?

I have been using a d-tech leak detector for years and it is great. Looking to buy another one but they have changed the technology of it (it is now called a d-tech select) and I heard today that they were recalled by the factory. I am nervous about buying a new d-tech. The d-tech sensitivity is rated at .1 ounce a year which is very good. I just saw an ad for a Yellow Jacket AccuProbe which has an amazing sensitivity of .003 ounce a year. Has anyone tried either one of these new leak detectors to see how well they work?
