Attachment 368801 Here's a place to call lol in the caymans. Attachment 368811 Here's an account to go after. It's a shame even on vacation I can't help but take pics of HVAC stuff. Not sure if I love or hate my field right now lol. In 13 years when my step son is 18 I'd love to move down there, or in a cruise ship.

I can help you for the Cayman Islands. First suggestion for any Island, find out the real cost of living. Lodging on many islands is usually expensive if you want to live in a safe place. Then I would find out the tax structure. Even though you may be working in a foreign country you may have to pay US taxes. I believe there is a pretty good exemption before that kicks in, but check it. Ask yourself if you are ready to work in 120 degree attics and 85-95 degree high humidity temperatures. Particular to the Caymans. You cannot just show up with your tools and go look for a job. You would have to contact all the companies on the island and see if they are looking for someone. If they are they must first advertise for a month to see if any qualified Caymanians are looking for work(this is unlikely as there is no VAC school there). After the month of ad's they will ask you to come down, at your expense, for an interview. If they decide to hire you they will have to apply for a work permit, which will require you to send doctors notes, chest xrays and a full police report. If issued, they will pay a few thousand dollars a year for as long as you work for them. The kicker is that you can't work for anyone else while they have your permit. They have to give their permission. If they choose not to they can have you kicked off the island until the permit expires. Then you start the process all over again. Cost of living is very high, pay is pretty low. It is very common to have 6 people share a three bedroom. Standard work week is 6 days a week and sometimes only every other Sunday off. If you are a US citizen, the US Virgins may be an easier route.
Hey Drunkenkoala, I tried to instant message you but don't have access on the site to do so. I have emailed the website organizers to help me out with it. Is there another way I can contact you?
?
Message me on the private message, I might be able to help you out.
Look up a guy here on this very website, Robin Boyd Goes by the screen name of Roboteq. He did a stint in the Caribbean for another member here who has passed away iirc He should be able to fill you in on some things
Pack your toolbag and hop a flight. When you get there, go apply to all the resorts! That would be a good life.
When you find out let me know, I'm an American citizen though.
How do I get a job on a caribbean island? I was wondering if someone could help me find out how to get a job on a caribbean island as a Canadian Citizen. What's the best way to find one? Does anyone know someone I could talk to? Thanks. Appreciate all the help I can get.
