Cheaper is not better. THere is a cheap way and an exspensive way, the cheap way will cost you more every time. THe coils are matched for a reason. Waterfurnace coils are also built very well. Do your self a favor and do the job right with matched components. THe Fed tax credit has no cap so why bother with a cheaper coil? Fabricate a proper coil cabnet and transition to accomadate the coil.

It's not just about the money, the WFI A-coil is 26 inches deep, and won't fit on top of my furnace without sticking out the back 5 inches. My furnace doesn't have a side venting option, and the water heater is really close on the back side.

It's always something isn't it.

you are correct that you need an ARI number in order to be "energy star certified" which is what is required to get the tax credit.

ARI has their own website where they have everyone's equipment and a-coils matched up and provides you the ari numbers.

that said - if your installer cannot provide you with the ARI number on the bid/estimate - yikes!

sure you can find a $250 a-coil but if it isn't matched you lose warranty and an ARI number.

This is scary! "I have heard" and "cheaper" maybe you should be educated on geothermal installs before you actually do it, and not be looking for a questionable "cheaper" option that would most likely void the warranty, and have marginal performance results.

Tax deduction questions on a Waterfurnace install

Hello.

I am installing a split system Envision 2 stage w/desuperheater. My goal is to utilize the power companies "dual fuel" rate. That's why I bought the split system.

Anyway...

I have heard that the indoor coil has to be matched to the HP, and an ARI number needs to be entered in at tax time to get the 30% deduction from uncle sam.

My question is, Can anybody reply with details on this?

I quoted a 3 ton coil from WF, and they want $700+ for an A coil. There's gotta be a cheaper option.
