There are. It is a very long drawn out training process. My brother-in-law is a dispatcher. I didn't hear the dispatcher but I can only imagine how much bs in a city that size they deal with. I'm not siding with them but who knows maybe the previous 10 calls they took were "my butt itches", "what time is it?", "my powers out", "I need a bambulance", "I don't want to get the newspaper anymore", etc etc.
I never realized how much 911 is abused. People think it's a gubment, information, and magic fix it hotline all in one.

The best part of this is the people in the background. A lot of people throwing up west side (not really a gang sign, just a W with your hand because its the west side of Cleveland), and people on there phones. When they were live on the air the white guy at the end who said he dated her cousin got interviewed too. He kept staring at the reporter I thought he was going to hit him.

Bottom line if its a 911 call, take everyone like its the end of the world, and the police and the courts can work it out if its false. Did anyone watch good morning america when that dude said a pretty white girl, running towards a black man (There had to be something wrong) The whole station laughed out loud in the background)

That frickan neighbor who found her was a real gem. He was eating his McDonalds's then it was off to save the white girl

Ok now I hear there were 2 different 911 calls

The black guy who busted the door down for amanda called 911 right after he set her free , he called 911 to inform them of whats going down and the dispatcher ( who was not the same dispatcher who talked to amanda ) clearly didnt care , and straight up friggin Hung UP on the guy as hes trying to inform them whats going down ..... a huge news story unfolding and you hang up the #$%@#$%$^$#@@#@#$$ phone on someone ????

2 dispatchers need to be removed from their position and into one they want to do correctly , because this job they obviously dont like.

I have a cousin whos a commander chief of Fire dept , and he says they respond to ALL CALLS prank or no prank as if they are ALL EMERGENCIES , because you just never know.

I agree that she sounded like crap. But from a local perspective there have been tons of false reports and pranks over the years. They dug up a few yards, one of which was someone in prison said that was where she was buried. If I would have taken that call it would have thrown me. My 1st reaction would have been bs. No one except her family actually expected her to be alive. 10 years how often does that happen.

Now with all that being said, the operator handled herself VERY poorly. "We'll send someone when a car clears up?!" Come on that is a less than 5 minute drive from the police station without lights and sirens on.

She was probably thinking of a bucket of KFC chicken for lunch and the call interrupted her train of thought.

911 dispatcher with Amanda Berry kidnapping

Wow , im astonished how unprofessional that 911 operator acted. Amanda was crying for her life , and all the 911 operator could think of was how fast can I get this girl off my phone line .... Really ??

    Then HANGS UP on her

911 please help I've been kidnapped , oh too bad im hanging up now, talk to the police when they get there .... REALLY ??

Then tells the officer to "check this call out ", and doesnt even tell him whats going on , like it was nothing serious , oh its just another kidnapping.

Isnt the first rule to keep them on the line until police arrive ? Maybe keep them on the line to calm the victim ?

This woman needs to be fired asap.

    Her name is Purdy

Purdy friggin ignorant if you ask me

If I lived in Ohio I'd be on the phone with 911 demanding her termination.
