What's the head pressure? That machine at 90/70 makes ice in 18 min. Maybe insufficient compressor, txv? High head? Suction should be 25-27 at the end of the freeze. Head 240-250 5 min in. Yah you have perfect cubes 45 Mins in but that's way to long. This is not a float problem but maybe a water inlet solenoid problem. Find out why the long freeze.

Is the water light blinking twice when the machine shuts off after the first freeze cycle? The inlet valve might not be filling the sump fast enough. There is a procedure in the service manual to measure this. It should fill a certain size measure (16oz?) in a certain amount of time. I can't remember the specific numbers right now. I had one last week that was locking out after the first batch every time with a two-blink water diagnostics light. Inlet was only passing 1/2 the amount of water that it should have in the time allotted.

Had one yesterday. An old CM 250. It was a no brainier the water came out even with the plug pulled off the coil .

Yeah, i'm leaning more towards leaking water inlet. Ive had a lot of old CM's with this problem. Eventually it locks out and little to no ice is produced.

Water side most likely as already pointed out. Easy check on hot gas valve is check inlet, if it is at or close to discharge line temp it is bleeding through. Usually won't make ice to speek of in that case but worth checking just the same. Check the drain while in freez. If steady stream coming out your water valve is bleeding through keeping water temp up in trough thus long freeze time. Good luck

Float should be the same for all the CM3 cubers, the float stick is the changeable part. The one in a 256 should be white, and no protrusions to prevent it from going all the way down. If it is gray, has a hoop in the top of it, or has "legs" sticking out of the side to prevent it from going all the way down, it is wrong. Also, if it has a universal brain, check to make sure that it is set to the correct model

The posted cycle times are very optimistic. If the water valve isn't leaking thru you can block part of the gap on the float with cork insulation (as per factory) or put a can of pop (no paper label) or something to displace the water. Also check that the condenser fan motor is on constantly. The thermistor can act up and cause problems. If the machine is out of warranty you can eliminate the thermistor. Check with the factory for the procedure, I'm a bit rusty as I've had the summer off

I once had a problem with this machine,sometimes valve close properly, sometimes
water leaking through.

May be the wrong float, may also be a water leak intothe trough.

Scotsman ice machine

I've been working on a Scotsman CME256AF-1A machine. I've given it a good cleaning and such, but it keeps locking out after the 50 minute freeze time. I've checked the float eyes and it is working. (I have the IOM) My ambient is 88-90 and water is 74 degrees. My pressures seem a little high on the suction side near the end of freeze cycle, 42-48 PSI.
I am getting a temp. of 88 degrees on the outlet of the HGB valve. Could that be the problem? Also the float is not adjustable, the float and eye look new wondering if it is the wrong float.
When I push the float down before the 50 min. mark, say 45 min. And force a harvest the ice is the perfect shape.
BTW it an air cooled model, head pressures are in perfect range according to IOM.
