Just tell them to go ahead and do "their work", but make it clear to them that you will be billing them at your full service rate if you have to fix "their work".

I allow them to try. when they start asking questions, I tell them where the schematics are, and remind them that they own what they break. they usually pull wires and leave for my guys to figger out where they go. more and more, with things being what they are, they are becoming fraid to touch our stuff. statements like "hey, you know that board is worth fourteen grand" dont make them comfy

I think I'd like to tell them to bite me. Get the wires to my boxes and let us do the rest. I get really tired of coming in after the fact and separating the lights, door heat, and evaporator fans off one circuit. I will not work in the dark!!! Is it that hard to wire me in a disconnect or a switch?!

Simply hide the schematic until they come sniffling and saying please help us!

Depends on the electrician. Ive seen a few who had obviously wired many walk ins. Ive seen more who didnt have a clue.

tell him to wire it from the panel to where it should be and specify that they pull the power wire from the panel to unit only, makes the panel connection and leave the breaker off/lock it off. and you do the final connection on the unit and any control wiring required. they'll be happy that way.

This is how our jobs typically go.

Get the wires to the unit and label them. I'll do the rest.

If they insist, I'll let them do it, but the smart electricians only insist once.

Sparky does the work. We fix it.

I really enjoyed watching a panel full of soft starts,controls and transformers go up once ....

Pull the wire and let a tech land it or let the tech assist...and not be a jackass about it ...

I came across a voyager once that a couple of sparkies fixed,,,ripped all the controls out and wired up a conventional stat to it ...made me sad...

They couldn't figure it out so they killed it ...

Just because it has wires doesn't make you automatically qualified to touch it.

That's about all there good for is pulling wire. Some are smart though, our sparky used to wire those up now we didn't do work like that anymore.

Got frustrated last time it happened. He threw a fit, I called the shop, they said let him do it, I left. 2 hrs later shop sent me back to show him where to land wires. I went back handed him the wiring diagram and left agin. Ended up wiring myself the next morning. Freaking douche bag. I offered to land them for him initially but was told "no that's our work. We better do it." couple hrs later he was so confused he couldn't climb a ladder and wanted my help. I don't have a problem helping anyone and usually offer but these freaks will file a grievance and or flop around like 3 year olds kicking and screaming and run you off. Then either call you back when their brain melts or just put wires any where and let the smoke out of the thing at first defrost cycle. Wish they would just pull the wire and go away.

back charge them for fixing their F/U, then inform them it's coming out of their wages

their arrogant attitudes won't let them acknowledge they don't have a friggen' clue what they are doing.

Hey guys & gals. Not trying to start a fight but this has always been an argument on job sites. Wiring of WI freezers. I see it alot, especially on schools. Electricians claim its their work and hit the floor kicking and screaming if a fitter or sheetmetal worker starts to do it. Then when we let them have it or if they already have it in their SOW they can't figure out how to wire it and we end up doing it anyway. Question: should they claim work they cannot do?
