Because there is too much information to post here and most people have specific questions. Not trying to hide anything here. I would be the first person to admit that KBR is probably one of the worst corporations out there. But the money is good, the work is easy, and the situation over here is not as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be. A job is a job and if a person needs information to help them make a decision then I will be glad to help out but I don't have all day to sit at the computer and put out information. I will tell them all the bad right along with the good.

If he workd for KBR he didnt make 160k in 10 months, Plumbers Electricains and HVAC techs are paid almost the excact same amount.

I know an electrician who worked for KBR in Iraq. He made $160k in 10 months. Maybe the electricians make a lot more. Not sure.

He had nothing good to say about the experience though. Apparently, nobody there has any idea what they're doing. He was telling me horror stories of marines getting electrocuted in the shower due to faulty wiring. It seems to happen very often.

If you went to school you are way over qualified for a job with KBR. No you do not have to be a journeyman, all you need is a pulse and the ability to pump up a sprayer and clean coils 12 hrs a day.

I was there for 6 months, The money they promise is Bullsh!t. To make the $80,000 or what ever it is, you would have to work 12 hours a day EVERY Day of the year. That's no leave, no sick days, nothing. The way they pay you is this: You get a base hourly rate of something like $14.50 On top of that you get an "uplift" for over sees work and an uplift for being in a war zone.So this comes out to about $21.00 an hour, sounds okay right. Well that's just for the 1st 40 hrs after that its back to $14.50 an hour, that's right no overtime. Remember this:there are not any labor laws in Afghanistan. So you work 12 hrs a day(keep in mind they do take out for lunch) seven days a week, this is 84 hrs. So 40 at $21.00 an hour is $840.00 then the other 44 hrs at $14.50 is $638.00 that's $1478.00. multiply this by 52 weeks $76,856.00. That's no sick days, no leave, no vacation.
If this sounds good to you then think about this. If I work in the US 84 Hrs a week I can make the same amount probably more because i don't make $14.50an hour. I also spent a month in Houston getting processed and not getting paid. You will also have to pay for a majority of you plane tickets for your leave and plane tickets around the world are not cheap.
I am just referring to KBR, most of the other companies over there are not lying, cheating, bast@rds like KBR.

He was a Navy Seabee, not a KBR emplyee.

Unless you are there as civilian security, no weapons are allowed to be carried by any civilian contractor.
I personally witnessed at one location there that alcohol and pornographic material in your possession got you transferred back to the states and fired on the spot.

My foreman was in his late 50's and a plumber in his 60's. They will check you out and see if you are healthy enough.

old for the excitement. I have had a similar sunny and warm vacation with the Army but the humidity was a problem there. What is the median age of the people working there? I'm recently widowed so it may be the challange I'm looking for.Best Regards

I know you made some good money, Tqbeach, but it sounds like you went through hell to get it. The KBR guys in Balad were staying in one of saddam's palace and had every American convience(except liquor and women). At Anaconda, they were staying in two man trailers and GP medium tent. It all depends where you get posted at. I hope when you go back, things are better for you. Keep your head down and your ears open(so you can hear mortar rounds).

The cool thing is that you can do everything with nothing. Now when I'm at work and the other tech's say it can't be done the boss sends me out.
