no8no3, smart move on your part, they have a terrible turnover rate. i had a manager tell me that they would hire 5 and if they kept 1 that was ok. by my book that's an 80% turn over rate.

Hill york is all over Florida and pay is pretty good. CMS wont pay over 22 dollars to anyone. They wanted me to work for them here in Memphis, I laughed at the guy.

    Relocating to Naples
$15-18 tops and fitting pipe here is a little different than in the windy. Very little CW and mostly DX. There is some CW but it is on hospitals and schools and not much else. That pretty much leaves linesets. Stay there make your fortune and family, and come to Disney in the winter.

    FLORIDA AND JOBS

I feel for your dilema that really stinks. Next time you need to be better prepared. I just returned from Florida myself. I Sarted my trip by first sending out a cover letter stating my intention to relocate to the area that I was gioing to and the fact that I was interested in setting up interviews for the time that I would be in town. Along with this letter I enclosed a brief but exact resume containing my experience and skills.

This preperation and professionalism was rewarded with a good mumber of responses and interviews. Because I was prepared I was able to secure a good job with a Company that I liked. Not only was I able to do that, My prepereation was impressive enough to that employer that I was even able to obtain a letter of Promise of Employment.

Preperation is every thing in the type of endever you tried to take on. Dont give up, prepare better next time and you Will Succeed! Best of Luck!

Contact me if you are interested and I will be glad to give you the formats I used in my letters and Resume.

Travel all the way to Florida for a job you might get? Sounds risky to me especially with nothing in your pocket. Why be mad at someone else you made a mistake, learn from it and move on.

    FRESH START

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR MISFORTUNE.YOU ALMOST HAVE TO GET ANYTHING IN WRITING THESE DAYS.HVAC CONTRACTORS ARE A DIME A DOZEN OUT HERE IN WEST CENTRAL.MOST ARE IN TO CHANGE OUT UNITS FOR THE PROFIT.MOST PROVIDE VIRTUALLY NO BENEFITS,RAISES OR LONG TERM CAREER POTENTIAL
YOUR OTHER OPTION IS TO GET INTO COMMERCIAL WHICH IN FLORIDA IS MOSTLY 5 -20 TON RTUS.REFRIGERATION IS ANOTHER AV IF YOU LIKE ON CALL AND LONG SUMMER HOURS AND TONS OF DRIVING.
WHEN YOU MOVE DOWN HERE ITS HARD TO SEE ALL THE PITFALLS UNTIL YOU LIVE HERE FOR A FEW YEARS.NEXT TIME COME DOWN IN THE WINTER AND ENJOY THE WEATHER.BEST OF LUCK

What part of Michigan are you from?

I grew up in Ann Arbor,MI......

I moved here about 5-6 yrs ago.......

If your SERIOUS about maybe moving to Florida .....

Maybe I can help you,and you can help me.

I run the "maintenence" dept at my employer and could get you a stable job.

Now of course I would never hire you over the phone!!!!!!

You would need to fly down here,we would meet, discuss job specifics...etc.

You would come ride with me for maybe 3-4 hrs to get a feel with what you would be doing and I could gauge your abilities.

We do 90% Commercial work and your work would consist of doing maintenence for all kinds of commercial buisnesses.

After a while there is advancement oppurtunities for "service" work.

Service is what I do,but I also hire/fire,schedule,etc....for the maintence dept.

Im not going to sit here and blow smoke up your a$$.......

Rooftops in August are unreal......no shade, just you and the "UV" index of 10.

    No wimps need apply.

One of our maintences, takes one guy 40 hrs to complete!!!!!

    (20 RTU`s,40 exhaust,5-6 fresh airs, a few "walk ins".........etc)

    Ive done it many times......

If your interested.....Ill give you my phone # and we can go from there.

Either way .....good luck to you.

    Trapped in Florida

First of all I live in michigan and I have been in Florida and found the people to be no different than here. Infact in most cases have found southren people more pleasent to be around, not as up tight as northeners Although I did run into a situation I simply did not see comming from somebody in Naples. This gentleman called me to see if I would be intrested in working for him and after a few long conversations I agreeded to make the trip to Florida at my own exspense,he said he would have to confirm with his brother and would call me back he called me back WELCOME ABOARD 15 dollars an hour to start the van cell phone.ETC.
and my brother has a friend in real estate setting you up with an apartment. So I talked to the wife she said go for it when you get set up I'll come down so I took what money I could get together and left for Florida. After breaking down and stopping to see my sister I arrived to find this gentleman on vacation and his brother telling me I never agreeded to hire you just to interview you and there was no apartment. I stood there in total shock and just about broke simply could'nt think stright. How was I going to get home this ******* had the nerve to say to me no biggie stick around I'm sure you can find a job. where was I going to sleep or shower for that matter. I guess my point is that there are jerks all over the place there is nothing you can do about them just don't let it change who you are or the commitment you made to your self to be the best you can be.As I'm typing this thread I'm finding graditude in the fact that I was able to repair my van and get home.I would still move to Florida and still have the commitment to myself and whom ever I worked for, except this time it's money up front. The one thing I always seem to find is when it gets busy employers want you to bend over backwards to bail them out but what are employers willing to do for there employees or pontenial employees and as far as cost of living being cheaper down south pretty much not true it was true 10 years ago not anymore although you do get a little more home for your money depending on where you live.
