I will be honest with you starr. I was lucky. I knew the direction in the industry that I wanted to end up. Took me while to get to that point. I worked with a commercial group for a while that worked on everything. I didn't have a lot of experience in R but I took it apon myself to learn as much as I could by reading books and guides. And asking questions with some of the more experiene techs that I worked with. With each call I would begin to understand a little more. One day I saw an opportunity with another company that was looking for someone to do R only. I lied about my experience and here I am 3 Years later still learning. Moral of the story and the most important part. If you want something. Go get it! Only YOU can get to where YOU want to be! Good luck starr

Get to know the local contractors in your area. Hang out at the supply houses. Get the word out you are available for short term work. Once the season hits, someone will hire you.
I got into a small company that did a little of everything from residential and commercial HVAC as well as "R". He had patience with me while learning the finer points of "R" and taught me a lot. Just make sure you have a solid understanding of the refrigeration cycle especially subcooling and superheat.
to getting into the "R" in HVAC/R? I can't get anyone one to touch me with a ten ft. pole I have residential and a little commercial experience plus I'am just about finished with my AAS degree in hvac/r. I would really like to get into refrigeration but no "refer" experience = no job! I realize I would have alot to learn but, how can I get my foot in the door?
