I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that was bothered by all the old posts being brought up again.
Just let the old posts friggin die wouldja?
Gee mr hvac41, you sure have resurrected an aweful lot of OLD posts haven't you? I thinks there is now someone who spends more time on here than me
no, thats how you turn a goodman into: BUBBA'S CUSTOM SIGNATURE EDITION H - HACK SYSTEM!
So thats how to upgrade a goodman
They would go YYEEEEEEOOOWWWWWWWW that's HOT!
And what is the first thing someone would do when seeing that hole with the pipe sticking out? Reach down and touch it. What a surprise they'd get if it were running!
I saw a Goodman with a factory installed scroll years ago, probably from about 91-92 time frame, dont think there were many though, only saw the one, might have been an experiment
Yeah. Looks like a start booster. Probably SUPERBOOST. Which the company a few years ago deemed as EVIL and started to kiss Kick Starts A$$ for a few years. Now. The management says KICK START is evil and stocks us iwth 3-2-1 brand 3 wire hard starts. Funny. The guys in the office don't test crap for themselves. I agree tho, SUPER BOOST is crap. ANd I think Carrier did have em early too now that you meanting it. The yellow package units with the comp shoved into the corner seem to ring a bell. Those were Carlyle I think, PREE Melenuim (JUNK)
Carrier was putting scrolls in some of their units around '90 or '91. I remember changing a couple out.
It looks so nice and neat, how'd you ever figure out it wasn't a factory job? Izzat a start booster next to the compressor?
Takes special piping for a scroll. Just slapping it in a unit and hooking up to what's there will be a problem!
Today I was sent to a job to check for "damage" done by the last tech out in December when he did a leak repair. There was a small hole cut into the panel. The home owner noticed it. So I removed the panel to have a look inside. What the heck. A SCROLL? A 1999 serial number on the Scroll. The unit was a 1991. I knew RUUD/RHEEM was using them early but I don't think anything went into these older Goodman units (which WERE Goodman's better condensers!) except for recips and the 1 1/2 tons had some rotories. So I checked with the office. Our guys changed the comp in 2000. They must have re piped it to fit the scroll. The discharge line rubbed a hole thru the side of the unit and thru the discharge line which leaked last December. The tech at that time fixed the leak and cut the bad part out to prevent another leak. What a guy. He really didn't do anything wrong but maybe should have mentioned it more to the HO. I wrapped the lines with some armoflex and threw the panel back on. Charge seemed good and had good 30 degree split in heating. I think I'll leave it alone about the wrong comp as far as the HO goes. It has been 3 1/2 years now. I just got to give the guys sh*t for doing this in the first place and I'm short on new material for the hall of shame. Too bad most of it comes from within the co. I work for. Tisk-tisk! :-P Oh yeah. Almost forgot. Looks like the guys who change the comp didn't change the filter. The OEM one is still inside. Didn't see an external one.
