Dues are the fees paid to organized criminals to run their operation.

In NY if a company hires you as an "apprentice" the local wont keep you from working, technically you are not consider an apprentice till you get initiated with the union and enrolled in the training program. my local has nobody benching right now and employers are allow to hire non-union techs when the hall is unable to provide them, that's how I got in years ago.

I also got a letter in the mail today from local 803 to call in and schedule an interview with them. Its exactly 3 weeks away and I'm already nervous as hell about it. I don't even know if there is a test or not but that alone scares me Hopefully by then I'll hear back from EMCOR. Don't be nervous about your lack of experience everyone has to start somewhere. As for the local having a test if you start as a first year the only test should be a high school equivalency test. But you should take that after you are in.

If there are no apprentice spots open, you stay in pre-apprentice limbo until a spot opens up. Right to work or not, the union can keep you out as long as they like.

No problem! Good luck and let us know how it works out!

Don't always listen to what you're told. I think Johnson Controls is the only national company that still lists UA positions online. I've been told by gals answering the phone at both Honeywell Building Solutions and Siemens Building Technologies to go online to check their careers page. Neither Honeywell or Siemens list their UA positions online! SMH.
No problem. Good luck. Check your e-mail.
Thanks
You may have better luck going through the local management. I could give you some more info off the radar if you put an e-mail address in your profile.
