Oh wait, I did get some extra compensation...

I got to stay in a dumpy hotel that didn't look so bad on the outside.

Good thing the misses wasn't with me. It would've been ugly.

when the I\C cases have been down for hr's. I know I'am sick in the head.

Last place I worked on call was 1 week long, $100 stipend, time and ½ , door to door, and rotation was approximately every 3 months

This place is the same except $85 stipend, and rotation is every 2 months.

Rotation is once every 10-12 weeks, we get an additional 9 hours on the check for keeping the phone on all week, OT from 3:30 pm to 7:00 am, and DT on Sundays.

At my previous job in Mississippi, I was on call for one week a month. I was paid for 4 hours straight time just for carrying the phone, and if I was called out it was 4 hours OT, even if it took 30 min to do the job. It was a state job though. : )

I get paid a 4 hour minimum per call. If I have left the parking lot at work and something happens it's still 4 hours. Otherwise they can wait until I get back tomorrow.

We are on call with no extra compensation but we get paid from when we leave the house until we get back.

Its just part of the job we do.

Employment labour standards in Canada are grey and open to being interperated favorably to an employer.

EG: an employer can compell an employee to carry a pager/cellphone/email device and can demand an employee to answer said device without compensation 24/7 but employee does not have to do anything more.

If an employer needs an employee to be available for work after hours he then must compensate said employee for standing time.

I get 3 hrs 1 1/2 min to respond to a call 1hr to answer my phone/pager regardless if I do anything or not
Last week was the 1st week I have been on-call for My Company. I waiting to see if i was compensated. If not I will continue with my regualr personal life, and if my pager goes off and i'm drinking with my friends, or going to the movies, or camping, or two states over...too bad! I can't go to the call.

we get 2 hours straight time per day for sat. and Sun. No omp time during week. Union says if we do not work 8 hours on weekday then we do not have to do oncall that day.

Our on call schedule is a bit odd, but it works. It averages out to be ever 5 weeks... sometimes it's a bit more, some times it's a bit farther apart. They schedule it so everyone has one major holiday, that way we don't get hosed and stuck with several if the calendar isn't on our side.

We get 2 hours OT for being on call, and then of course time and a half if we go out. We don't go out much thankfully.. guess we must be doing a good job maintaining the customers equipment. Typically if I go out I'll just charge regular time if it's a week day, or a weekend if I'm feeling nice, then take off early friday. I'm not sure if there's a minimum time we get for being called out though.

Course, where I was at, I was on call 24/7 (only service guy), no compensation, and was expected to just take time off to make up for the extra hours so I wouldn't rack up much OT at all. I don't mind taking some time off, but OT pay is nice from time to time. Being on call 24/7 though, wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I get nothing special for being on-call.
We do get OT hours for weekend calls but that's about it.

I like the x2 for the late calls you guys are getting.

I got to ask for that.

    Makes a lot of sense

I had one last nite and I was nodding off the whole way and it wasn't that late either

I'll ask for it to start at 8PM because I can't stay up much later than that
