I have a stash of PLT03307 thru PLT03312 I am willing to part with. All new and in boxes. The OEM supplier of the backplates to Trane is shutting down and knowing that many are still looking for these, I snatched up all the parts. We took what we needed and I'm left with a stockpile.

I have also used pliers to take the retainer ring off also, but sometimes they break. Good to have spares they are cheap.

They're on pretty tight but I'be always just used pliers to yank them off.

I have fixed a lot of these Trane vavs in the past. I always ordered the parts through the local Trane branch parts department.
If you give them the serial number of the vav the parts department can look it up. I usually order the gear the motor and a new retaining ring(which can be ordered in a bag of 10). There are only 2 sizes of the retainer rings. The wiring on them is 1 black wire
which is open. Then 2 blue wires which is common. Then 1 red wire which is close.

Pull off the retaining ring off the gear and everything slips out. All you have to do is install the new gear and motor, put the little sleave on the gear (sorry, don't have the technical terms), slip the spring over it, and put the retaining ring back on. Spin the gear by hand to verify nothing is bound up and don't forget to check both switches while you have it out.

I have run across this and you need MOTO08841 with the 48 degree pitch , smaller spindle gear you are using the larger ones which skip and cause the growling sound when moving.

just an update from the past year or so... I am finding that a retrofit is more cost efficient with a Belimo motor than factory Trane replacements. I can also get away from the 300 second span and go to a 90 second. Controls temp better and if an actuator motor fails, its a 5 minute repair and not a 2 hour repair

"I have had several talks with Trane tech support about it. The local Trane supplier has had me replace the acuator motor, large plastic gear and bushings with hardly any improvement. Trane commercial tech support has no other answers and says they will call me back but don't. They always seem to be uncooperative if you are not a Trane dealer."

Yeah, you and everyone else NOT Trane employee

I always replace the motor cap, and gear. Problem solved.

I believe the have a constant hot and it switches the common on the triacs on the board. In the past we have actually taken the whole guts out and installed a start collar and a round damper with belimo actuator. That seems to be the best all around solution, not to mention cost worthy.

I'm not sure which version they are, but the 360 second time seems spot on. These are the Varitrane boxes with the actuator inside them that drives the air valve. Apparently totally inaccessible unless you either remove the inlet of the box or cut an access panel in the bottom.

The actuator drive time varies by product:
Varitrane F Style boxes: 90 seconds
Varitrane E Style boxes: 360 seconds
Varitrac: 60 seconds
Hot water valves: 120 seconds
This is assuming your using Trane factory actuators, If your retrofitting, example using Belimo actuators. then drive times will very. Most actuators will have there drive time on the actuator.
