I now know that it takes 10lbs to fill a XL BGE. Boy is it ever worth it!!
XLentEGG I wanted to use chuck65 but the wife requested somethng a little more "catchy". I just recieved activation.
Whats your Eggheadforum.com name? Mine is the same as here.
Going to the local ACE Hardware today... Still waiting to be approved for the BGE forum.
Congrats fellow Eghead! Make sure you get a Platesetter pretty soon for smoking. I smoked some cheese on my Small this week.

I'm all in !! Pulled the trigger Friday. My XL gets here on Monday !! I went ahead and ordered a fire box ring and angle dividers to solve any problems doing smaller cooks. MMMMMMMMMM I can smell it already!!
My understanding is the XL is hard to control heat. But I don't have one so I don't really know. Check out the website they have a great forum.
WOW!! This sure is alot to take in. I find that there is no shortage of information and opinion on the BGE. I think that with the " ANG-L " type box divider and some half round "Eggcesories" I should be ok with the XL.....Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. ( I hope ) Still taking questions , suggestions , comments , and complaints while I make up my mind. THANKS AGAIN !!
I love my BGE its a large and has plenty of room. We will be having Tri Tip tonight with stuffed bakers. Whats cool about it is you can get a very low temperature for ribs and pork butt or a very hot temperature for searing steaks and making an awesome pizza. We use ours several times a week. Lump is cheap at Wally and its made in USA in my area
Check out theses How-To videos: http://www.fredsmusicandbbq.com/category_s/230.htm
I would say thats a pretty good deal. You'll be surprised at how much you can cook on a L though with the right "egg"cesories. I can do 4 pork butts at once. 4 racks of BB ribs. Lots of hamburgers. Sure sometimes I wish I had more space, a large brisket is a tight fit on the L. I usually use my trailered offset smoker for those. An XL would be great for that and thats why I will end up with one sometime in the future. I have just heard that the XL is harder to heat up and handle overall because of its size and weight. I have a family of 4 and am almost always cooking for others and the L is perfect for what I do 90% of the time. For small cooks, like 3 steaks or 6 baked potatoes I'll even use my Small. Here are some good sites for your inquiry: www.ceramicgrillstore.com www.nakedwhiz.com

My next one will be an XL only because I have the other sizes. I use mine 3-4 times a week. Thanks !! I know the XL is huge, but it seems that there is a size missing between large and XL. If this is really suppose to be the last grill that I ever buy I want to make sure that I will always have room to spare. I really don't have room here for two of them or i would just get a large and fill in the gap later. I'm a family of five (two boys) with inlaws on both sides living near enough to cook for also. The local propane shop offered me an XL with nest , mates , cover and a bag of lump for under $1100.00 THANKS AGAIN !!

Also helps to put a slice of Blue Cheese on the burger!!!!
It takes more for sure, but they make a ring that you can use to reduce the amout of coal for smaller cooks. Its just a round ring about 10" tall that hold the coal in a tighter circle. Count me in! I have 3! Pork Butt, Steaks (superb), Pizza, Baked Potatoes, Pies, Shrimp, Fish, Small Briskets (I prefer my offset for briskets) You name it. I have posted photos here from several of my cooks. Highly recommend it. BGE's warranty service is most excellent. Get the Large, its the most versatile. I have a L, M, and a Mini.
I saw my first one recently....... dayuuum! I want one!
I actually saw a whole pig (head on) cooked in a large green egg. They split the spinal cord in half and flipped it's hinds legs behind it's ears. It actually looked cool and they cooked it almost to perfection. The great thing about these Grenn Eggs are once you buy one you never need to replace ANY parts. I love my Weber grill but every third year I have to buy new parts or eventually a whole new grill.
