I have seen that woooowooo happen with certain vent-free burners. It was caused by turbulence and resonation in the burner. I have solved it by slightly bending the gas orfice at the burner, giving it a slightly different angle so it doesn't resonate. It may work for you. Let us know how you make out.

What I don't understand is why wasn't it a velocity issue for several weeks? There was no sound before.

As for BTU the fire pit burner rings don't have a set or target BTU, they simply state BTU will be determined by supply run length, pressure and diamater.

if you can, get a piece of 3/4" CSST in there, that should stop the whistling. Like lpman said, make sure the line is properly sized for the BTU of the appliance using the longest run method.

Too much velocity will cause that noise in CSST.
Your piping is undersized. You should have had it sized right before you wasted all that time and money. DOH!!!!

Hi Everyone..

I installed a large gas fire pit on my new deck (steel and concrete with Slate topping). I have a flexible Copper Gas line that comes thru the wall onto my deck for the BBQ, I "T" off it, installed a valve and ran 1/2" CSST down and under my deck and up into the fire pit. I tested everything and it was all working fine. Now that the construction is done, and the area the CSST is run is now fully enclosed with the soffit, the bloody thing whistles. A constant woowoowoowoowoowoowoowowo sound at the firepit end. I was concerned water was in it and maybe created a narrowing in the flow so I opened both ends and blew through the pipe with a compressor, there was some water, but really a marginal amount. When I use the compressor I get the standard ELK call from the pipe. The run of CSST is about 40'

My questions are:

1) Is CSST really that sensitive that if someone moved it around abit to fasten it down that it could start doing this?

2) Is there a better product to use that would be less prone to whistle, one that I could install in a similar manner with out having to completely open up 1100 sqft of vinyl soffit?
