PVE I know quite a bit about PVE oil (1) PVE, like Poe and pag oils will absorb moisture. This is why it is packed in metal cans. Packaging in metal cans will increase the shelf life to years. It is all about quality, quality. Moisture will go through a plastic bottle. (2) PVE does not react with moisture. POE reacts with moisture to create acid and a metallic soap (like a greasy sludge)). PVE does not do this. (3) PVE will not cause capillary tube blockage like POE (4)) A filter dryer is still recommended for a system with PVE. This is because it still filters impurities and removes excess moisture.(

It says again, you can eliminate the filter drier..I don't get that? And I do kinda wonder why it's packaged in a metal can? since it's so stable in water, would it not be cheaper to package it in plastic like AB/MIN? I am all for new technologies. But only when they make sense to me something isn't adding up here. maybe I'm not smart enough

It's expensive and they are sort of similar to me at Digi-Cool....small company that doesn't belong to the 'boys club' so they get maligned and forgotten a lot.....thus they don't get stocked anywhere. You guys would NOT believe what goes in in the supply side of the industry and thus why we are still using $hit in some technologies.....not to mention patent issues..... Thus small guys usually give up.....and you/I get stuck with $%%^ing garbage like POE.... This guy was really helpful... I think if you put west african stud buzzard manure in your hair and hang a 30# jug of 410a (you know...the pretty pink can ) off yer 'Ernie' ....it should make them both grow.... It's got a lot of better characteristics than POE and I f$%^ing hate POE.
I'm no chemist...but the oils we are familiar with have viscosity grades of ISO 32 and ISO68, which for mineral oil would correspond to 3GS and 4GS. AB, POE and PVE oils are rated similarly.
I do not doubt it may be something to keep an eye on. I wonder what the viscosity equivalents are compared to MO or POE?
NuCalgon is now offering PVE oil: http://www.nucalgon.com/assets/prodlit/10-S150.pdf Check out the list of compressor manufacturers which approve it. I think it's something to keep an eye on in the future.
No Russell. It is such a superior lubricant that the Rack will only require (1) 12oz can. The PVE will permanently bond itself to all metal to metal surfaces. In many cases, you can even remove the oil separator.
I'm not ready to cry 'snake oil' just yet. Doug, have you been using this stuff, getting good results? Anyone else using this stuff?
I saw that. Put it in your Service Truck and you can eliminate the Oil filter, and Muffler! Put it in your lawnmower, It cuts the grass for you! The part that really bothered me was the "similar characteristics to PAG oil...." was there not some problems with that stuff? I just saw the PVE is sold in 12oz cans. I am NOT pumping oil in a Rack Via 12 oz cans. 4 pumps, new can. 4 pumps, new can. 4 pumps, new can. Can you imagine doing a full oil change of 7-15 Gallons? Multiple times? The store would be screaming at you.....
I like how it says it makes it possible to eliminate the filter drier. will it make my hair and d*%& grow too?

If it does it would be a great change in refrigeration oils.

I know POE is based on alcohol and acid, which make it the good cleaning agent that it is. I thought when it broke down, it created organic salts. and that if absorbed enough water, it could separate and revert back to being alcohol and acid in separate components. If I'm remembering correctly. but when cared for correctly POE is a good lubricant.
