Or worrying that you may in fact know more than the tech that is at your house.

    Jeremy-

    You are new here. Welcome.

Try to read the thread, at least a few posts, before responding. It helps to get the context.

We have already made a determination that the OP may not be a tech, and we know that this is an "open" forum.

Therefore, we are not offering technical advice to HO's in this thread. See my post on the previous page.

Do you have an ohm/multi meter? Have you tried alternating different individual wires in the tstat wire bundle going to condenser unit if you have isolated it to that, in case some insulation or short compromised one or some of them. Assuming the minimum number wire count wasnt used 3 or 5 for example. We always use atleast 8 wire regardless if its straight ac or not. Zebra makes a z breaker you can mount on unit in 5 amp to help trouble shoot and save fuses/time, also depending on unit location allow home owner to reset an occasional trip so they have heat or A/C untill you get back out there. Straight wiring or using a bigger fuse is stupid as you will only end up burning out transformers or worse.

    5 amp fuse blowing

Is it blowing during the heat cycle if the system has a humidifier the solinoid could have a short causing the fuse to blow

I worked with a guy, that when he had this problem he would jump the fuse holder with a piece of wire.
He said he would find the problem most of the time because the part would end burning up.
    Crazy I know!
I have worked with many crazy tech's

    I hope you are kidding!

I try to cull out the pretenders, because this is not a DIY site, and I don't want these open forums to be indexed as a DIY database by the search engines.

If a pretender pushes, I will gently push back, hoping he gets the idea that he is fooling no one. Sometime, they need a little more convincing. If they are a tech, eventually that will come to light, too.

When I was right out of school and a commercial pipe fitter I once changed my tstat in hope my furnace would run better, I wonder looking back if it had to do with the fact I lived in the appt for 2 yrs and never changed the filter lol
