How long could that have taken to cut the entire front piece off and made a hinged or removable access cover? We sued to do that stuff all of the time in the Payson area on old homes, cabins, crawl spaces, etc!
But of course, we had something called a PERMIT to pull and code to pass. Kinda makes you do it right, or not at all!!!

I noticed that you mention my name LOL!

I wish the slum lords around here would purchase high end equipment such as Trane and AS. Most install Aire-Pro (a CHEAP offbrand Coleman, which is sold through an appliance parts store, which is why only hacks and apartment maintenance idiots trade there). You're doing good if you are able to talk them into buying a Ducane or Weatherking.

What's the required distance to the front of the unit on those? But you gotta love those 40-inch furnaces. Yessiree, you can squeeze them in almost anywhere. Look, there's the proof.
It is legal to use copper here as well, but the utillties co has an rule around here if the gas has been turned off for over 6 months, you have to have the gas line pressure tested and inspected. If they had done that, the inspector would have caught them that they had installed an new furnace outside WITHOUT a permit.I am not sure if you can see from my pictures, the I guess for a lack of a word to describe it doghouse covering this unit is about completely rotted.Score one for the Heat'em and Cheat'um clan.

A hacked American Standard(Just for you Payson)

This one I have been holding on for a while, this is around the ECU campus area.Typical slum lord rental property, rentors called us because of our ad in the YP (we are an AS dealer)
Get to the call and I go to the door and I talk to the renter and get the gist of the call.Turn the t-stat to heat and walk to where they told me the unit was.I was under the impression that it was a package system, boy was I wrong on this one.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/ChrLBran...ey=TyjhT--j3ec
The problem of this unit is that the gas line was never inspected, prob cause the whole job would not have passed code.I am guessing this had a furnace here before and who ever put the AS here should have been drugged out in the street and shot. How would you like to work on the blower?
I have seen many threads about Goodmans hacked in,but this is the worst I have seen in person.
