That is interesting. I know that in California (I thought it was nationwide), if you call an ex-employer of a potential new hire, all they could say is whether you worked there or not. I may be wrong on this and hopefully someone will correct me if I am. The can not say if you were a good or bad worker or if you were late a lot. Only that you had worked there and for how long.
i have met many people who have inherited companies and would not have a clue how to service any of their clients needs but have the attitude that their employees owe them when actually the owners should be greatful for them
without employees you have no company and if you operate it by yourself you are an worker first and a owner second
it is the employers who earn there living off the backs of others not the other way around
wahoo you said who fed you and yours. well it is not my employer i fed mine and mine by going to work and earning you and yours your living not the other way around
It's not about being honest. The question is what changed that makes a potential employer want to put you in a position that can get you fired before commiting to hire you.

A few times we've lost really good employees simply because they got a really good offer from someone who would actually be a really good employer. And we hated to lose them, but couldn't come close to matching such an offer. Be honest with your employer, he'll (or she'll) appreciate the honesty and if they don't, then seriously start looking elsewhere. But remember who fed you (and yours) the last how many years and be honest with them about what you feel about your job!! If they are an ethical employer, they appreciate your comments, and notice your ethics! I have seen to many people laid off or fired for being honest with their employer. Its great that you're not like that, but many of them are. I will say, its hard to come out and ask for a raise, or anything else for that matter from your boss.

Some of my Union acquaintances never figured there is also an Employer's union. They will GET YOU FIRED AND THEN HIRE YOU AT A LOWER RATE BECAUSE THEY THINK YOU WILL BE DESPERATE. Solution: Don't be desperate.

I do my share of reading, via financial mags, newspapers, and internets. I grew up poor and was able to help myself become a small business owner. I am far from being rich, but do ok. I firmly believe our system is broken. The politicians are stealing our economy right out from under us, along side of their rich buddies. This is true of both parties. look at what politiicans have become. most retire rich, and then go on to be lobbyists, selling bills of goods ot their buddies for millions more. The only way we can change things is to kick out the guys stealing from us, and vote for guys who who have their hearts in it for the right reasons. This means figuring things out in the locla primaries, not in the general election when we are left with two talking heads. By now, its too late. I wont go political, other than to say we NEED to be better informed, and exercise our right ot vote, instead of sitting home and *****ing on election day. one in two doesnt show up to vote in most cases. its no wonder the politicians dont care about us.

Flange, with thoughts like that your my new hero
What can be done? Well, I could go on a diatribe for hours on that question alone, but will just write a short story. There was a time, about 120 years ago, give or take, where american businessmen did anything they could to make more money, while trying to keep the worker down. The forced longer hours, for less pay, and when workers stood up to fight, hired agencies to protect their interests. One of the most notables was the pinkertons, said to be better armed than the federal governemnt. They were for hire by anyone with enough money, to do anything they wanted. A great many businessmen, who "couldnt afford" to pay workers fair wages, could afford to hire the pinkertons, and others, to strike bust, and force workers to work long hours for low pay. A new attack has been happening right under your nose. Jobs have been moving offshore for years, due to the so called high cost of doing business here. usually this is done by short term "turnaround specialists" who break businesses apart piece by piece, rape and pillage by taking huge salaries and bonuses, and then move on. Everyone thinks its great, how these guys are killing jobs with the storke of a pen. The problem is, it kills jobs at all levels. This country needs entry level jobs, up to management and ceo's. I have done a lot of reading on this. Their motto is "ship the low wage jobs offshore, and replace them with high paying jobs". The mentality is "we would rather sit in an office and sell stuff made overseas, than actually make stuff here". Problem with that is, what do the folks who work those jobs do? The low wage people are the ones hurting, not the sales guys sitting in the office. We currently have a presidential candidate, who is a financial supporter of doing exactly this, offshoring manufacturing jobs. If you agree with that philospophy, he is your guy. I happen to disagree with it, and he isnt my guy, although the other guy isnt much better. I Guess they aren't meant to be. It's always great to have a good job when another one comes along. If they don't impress the hell out of you than you just say no thank you. My criteria is pretty strict really wouldn't take anything that wasn't with one of the big three but I like to listen.

Exactly!!!!!!! And what if your new job falls through. That's why I turn all these people down. To many variables.
