My hammer has interchangeable heads to accept different types of bits.

However, Wilwaukee manufactures some other adapters like...

I didn't find anything (from Milwaukee) that would allow you to use the SDS Max or Spline bits in your SDS hammer.

Ok ..... that makes a big differance. I was under the idea that I had to go by brand more then by the style of bit. That makes a big differance on finding bits. I guess you never stop learning if you ask the right questions. I appreciate the lesson EVEN, that makes looking for bits a whole lot easier to understand.

Brand does not matter. Hilti makes them, bosch makes them, dewalt makes them, etc. All the same.

Jultza ...thanks for the post . That confirms that EVEN TEMP was right that it was SDS standard being mine does not have any groove the entire length of the shaft. That hilti sight sure told me that there are a lot more shapes for hilti then I thought , just as I was told by the guy that I was trying to buy some of the bits from. THANKS

SDS Max measures a little over 11/16 at about .7

Any bit will fit as long as you get the correct type of bit.

I use several different brands in my Milwaukee. The nice thing is I also have an adapter to be able to use regular bits, SDS Plus bits, or the SDS Max bits.

So that only leaves out the Spline bits, for now.

Even temp....your right . I was just thinking that there was one pocket so when you mentioned 2 pockets I ran out to the truck and looked. Dam your right ,there are 2 cups, not one. I will have to keep my eyes open now on roto hammer bits for the SDS printed on them. Can you tell me what SDS stands for , that way it will be easier to remember? I will have to take a look at home depot. Being you knew this do you have any idea if anyone else has bits that will fit other then buying hilti brand. I guess I will find out at home depot wether theirs are Hilti. Thanks EVEN I appreciate the info.

The type of bit you are describing is called an SDS bit. There are at least 3 types of these bits. SDS standard bits have 2 small cups on each side that snap into the chuck. These are the older style. SDS plus bits have these same 2 cups, but also a groove running the entire lenght of the shank. These bits are generally smaller and are about 7/16 in diameter at the shank. The bits that are larger, as in core bits are called SDS max. They are about 3/4 in diameter at the shank end. If your hilti is older, it probably takes the SDS standard bit. I have actually seen SDS bits at home depot.

To be honest in my mind I would not consider it a spline type. It locks over the end of the bit and has one groove that something spring loaded pops in the groove so it locks so it will turn. Now a spline in my opinion would be multiple grooves on the end of the bit that it would slide into to lock it in place, just like a drive line spline on a standard transmission. Thats not whats on the Hilti bits I have.

Now this may sound like a strange question but as smart as a lot of guys in here are, someone might have a good answer. I have a Hilti te-22 roto hammer that I have had for years. Now Im always keeping my eyes open for bits at the second hand stores or rummage sales being I seem to see a lot there. The only thing is I have been told that the new bits for hilti dont interchange with each other. one place I had seen a set and was interested in buying them but the guy selling them told me that her had bought them for his older hilti and they didnt fit. Now Every time I have run into these bits I didnt have my Hilti handy to see if they would fit so does anyone have or know a way of telling if they are the same and will fit? I might have to look up a Hilti repair center and see if they have any answer but the numbers on my existing bits are pretty well worn off so I dont know if there are markings that will tell me what roto hammer they will work on. Also do any other brand roto hammer bits work in a Hilti?
