There is another way too. Go to www.portableapps.com You can download firefox and many other utilities that you run on a thumb drive. It is a good idea to have all this stuff with you anyway. The thumbdrive acts like a portable hard drive and you can load up let's say like an 8 gig thumbdrive with all the goodies you might need. You can run Firefox right from that drive as long as the PC your have at your access has a USB port and internet access. I have an 8 gig that I carry around with me all the time, but I am a geek that way I guess.

Oh, and if you need IE as mentioned above, you should be aware that system restore works best in Safe Mode.

At least I can say that Firefox has gotten much better.

I takes a little getting used to, and it uses "plugins" to give you the various functional aspects for more advanced features, but it is not as vulnerable as IE and is a good, free browser.

    Try it.

See if you can download Firefox to CD on another machine, and install it on the troubled machine. You may not want to install IE8 when you use Firefox.

    IE problems

which OS are you using Xp or Vista? system restore wont work if you did windows update to IE 8. you can try putting sp3 for Xp or sp 2 for vista.

If that fails a reinstall is the only option.....

    avoid IE8 ...

If his only browser was IE then he can't download Firefox.

I'd try loading your Windows system recovery CD and click on "Repair". That will save all your data and reload IE as well.

Did you system restore yet? I recently updated a relative's computer from IE7 to IE 8, and then it wouldn't boot up Windows at all. I had to "use a previous configuration that worked" option that was presented to me by the computer. Not sure of the windows version. Sorry that I don't know how to help you access that option...yet.

WHat version do you use on the work computer?
